Built a brand new station on what was a vacant lot for as long as I can remember. Must have a high mortgage. It's on a corner I pass every morning.

I took this pic this morning. I don't think I will ever step foot in this station.

There's enough Canadians down there that are used to those prices.
In Southern Ontario the common price today is around $1.55 per liter which works out to $4.09 US per gallon. Definitely higher than the $2.97 per gallon I paid a few weeks ago in Western NY state but nothing like $9 😳

$8.99/gallon seems like a reasonable price to you?
No. But I'm assuming that won't be the actual price, when the station opens. As others have said, it's pretty common for a new station to post outlandish prices, before the station actually opens for business.

Seems like an odd practice that can only have a negative impact on their future business.

Around here a station under construction will just keep the price sign off until it’s ready to open.

I remember when they were introducing reformulated gasoline. They told us it would cost only a few pennies per gallon more.

Why is it more in California? Is it the taxes levied?

I have not seen this. Seems like a foolish thing to me. It is not like they dont know how much gas is going to be within reason when they open.

If they posted lowball or even normal prices, motorists would be trying to buy gas at a station that was not yet open for business.
