Well, I'm sure he's got his consequences coming to him. If he had been injured ..that would have been included along with them.
I do not hate this person. I'm thankful that this ended with no injuries and is limited to the consequences that will cost him thousands for his lack of wisdom ..or lack of mastery of his personal problems.
That is, while I'm sure it could be argued that the world may be a better place without this guy ...how am I to know that? I really doubt that he woke up that morning and said, "Today, I'm going to be irresponsible and put others in harms way with my drinking by driving".
I will certainly agree that the world is a better place without him driving while intoxicated ..and I hope that it never happens to him again.
It's a real interesting perspective we have. We catch one slice of a person's existence and let that dictate how they're regarded from that point on.
It's totally plausible that anyone of us here could make one slight miscue in reasoning that results in a catastrophic event. The public will demand their pound of flesh for such things ..and your entire life will be judged upon that event.
One example comes to mind. There was a young man who was driving down no particular road for no particular reason. There were also, on this no particular road, 3 women (a grandmother/daughter pair and another). Along comes a bee and lands in the driver's eye. He, 100% understandably, loses control of his car. It also just so happened, for no apparent particular reason, that the 3 women were right in the path of his out of control car. They died.
What do you think the reaction was of the families of these women? What do you think that they wanted to have happen to this young man? A young man who was guilty of no more than being at the wrong place at the wrong time that a bee decided to poke him in the eye?
What do you think would be "just" for this situation (given your practical side indexed against your candid awareness of the human condition -which includes a candid view of yourself)???
