Got me some Redline 0w30 comin'

I really like Biosyn as Terry reccomended it to me, but it's just far too expensive for me to purchase locally so I continue to use Amsoil, and/or try this new Redline oil.

If it were affordable I would use it as my sole oil choice because the used oil analysis I have on the stuff are excellent, the engine is quiet and the TBN seems to hang on just as long as my Amsoil runs in my application.

Plus its made from a renewable resource, and you gotta like that.

Yep, Shaun at Wildgoose is were I get my Red Line.
We have a member in Ottawa who gets it for under $10 bucks from a local performance shop. He posted recently in a Red Line thread about it.

I think it is cheaper than Red Line from their Distributor in Bolton.
21Rouge was telling me he bought some. It was something like 44 bucks for a US gal' delivered to his door.

Ever thought of XD-3 0w-30? I ran it one winter in my wife's 3.2TL and it did really well. Olympic uses it in his long-distance taxis and he had some 30k km + oci's that did really well too.

It wasn't that long ago that you could get it for $4/L.

Olympic is a great guy...dont see him anymore on BITOG

. Anyways he used this XD in exactly the same vehicles that I had and have i.e. Pontiac Montana and Vibe. Because of his success using this 'thick' oil in a 4 cylinder taxi (soon to spec for 5W-20) in the very extreme temps of Saskatchewan I decided to use it in my Vibe. I only stopped using XD because of the difficulty in obtaining it close to home but instead switched to the similar viscosity oil GC and have used it off and on ever since.

As well XD has for sure gone up in price...not sure what it is currently.

I'm confused, is that supposed to be a great 0w30 used oil analysis or reinforce JB's statement? Because that oil sheared to a solid 20-weight in just 6400 miles.

I didn't think it was a bad UOA. It did shear but I still would consider it to be a heavy 20 weight according to the BITOG oil viscosity chart. That chart says about 9.5 is as heavy as SAE 20 gets. Therefore, it is about about 0.4 cSt below the SAE 30 limit.

Also, wear does not appear to be extreme even considering the shearing and although I did not pay for the TBN that particular time, I would assume it was still okay based on previous reports.

What oil should I use to not see any shearing at all? I am thinking about doing a run of Pennzoil Platinum 5w30. You can see on that report that my previous run with Mobil 1 5w30 sheared a lot worse.

I would try Pennzoil Platinum 10w30

Nah, I would want to do 5w30 because it can get quite cold where I live in the winter. I guess maybe 5w30 oils are prone to shear. I don't want to go thicker than 5w though.

I recently asked about using Rotella 5w40 but everybody told my it would be a bad idea because SAE 40 would be too thick for my application in Nebraska in a Ranger 4.0 SOHC.

I will be putting this in after the current run of Amsoil is done.
