I agree. I've had that lable put on me in times past because I use Mobil 1 oils, but time has proven that my engines have done quite well. For a good sound engine a quality Synt.like RL, Amsoil, PP, or Mobil 1 is well worth the investment.

Man, your gonna love this oil,i just changed mine yesterday
with RL 5-30 and the difference is night and day.
The motor is more quiet, feels a 100 times smoother and the cold start noise is completely gone. Ive used amsoil in the past too, But redline blows it out of the water(my opinion).

Is yours the 3.4L?

Stevie, I'd wager next week's coffee that you'll be as happy as I am with the Redline. No more 20hp robbing syrup in the crankcase in dead winter!

I really can't complain... Mobil 1 and Amsoil have both been excellent in the winter, with Amsoil having a slight better cold flow properties which seems to be even easier for starting in the winter.

If RL takes the cake in this area I will stick with it.

Can't wait to try it...

(Tongue in cheek mode on)

So you are going to run a shorter than normal OCI to clean up what ever Amsoil left in there?

PLEASE tell me I'm taking your post wrong.

If you really think Amsoil left something in the engine then what are you going to use to clean the Redline?

At $12 can (1 Canadian dollar = 0.914829 U.S. dollars) that makes the RL $10.97 per quart.

I'd run that stuff a LONG time. And I mean a LONG time.

It will be interesting to see what you think. Remember that the more you pay for an oil the better it feels. (at least that is what I've read here on this board for the last 7 years)

Really I hope it does work out for you. Do I really think it will clean out whatever Amsoil left in there? NO.

But of course, I don't think most oils leave anything so I may be clueless.

Take care, Bill

I am fan of Redline in some applications! Let us just hope that their 0W30 works better then most? I am still waiting to see a great 0w30 used oil analysis.

As you use it the wear numbers will come down. Traditionaly the first 1-2 oil change intervals will stir up all kinds of old oxidized wear metals that are either stuck inthe engine or on the surface of parts. Usualy each OCI will see a drastic decrease in wear number's. Usualy by the third run the wear metals are nice and low. If you have been using Amsoil for for a while I would not worry about the first interval being short! I would run the first interval the same distance you normaly take your Amsoil and just do not bother with a used oil analysis.I seriously doubt that the Amsoil's left behind chemistry is going to negatively impact Redline.

Bill,

IMO no oil doesn't leave the engine completely clean, and some are better than others... None are perfect.

I'm running a short first OCI to allow the oil to clean out any residue Mobil 1 or Amsoil has left in the past while running it in the engine, also so that this oil can flush all the Amsoil left over oil out of the engine.

Then I will run my usual 10K KM (6K mile OCI) for the second run, then at 10K KM on the third run I will sample and see what the lab says and whether I can keep going or dump it.

These 2 shorter runs before will give the Redline oil a more accurate reading on the third run because it ensures that all the old Amsoil chemistry is 99.9% gone from the engine and had time to make the engine its home so to speak.

You know how I support Conventional oil, but in my Santa Fe in the winter it demands syn or the leprechaun under hood starts tapping at me. (he's a pain in the butt)

Besides I get paid mileage and it would more than make up if I chose to run Redline and dump every 5K KM (3K miles) if I wanted to. So I'm not worried about the cost.

Plus I had an air filtration problem which I think I just cured with an Amsoil EAA conical filter and my filter modification, so this should now allow me to run any quality syn for an extended OCI. versus having to dump it at 6K miles (10K KM) because of high SI levels.

BTW: You aren't clueless...

I will be posting mine here for sure... And especially now that I have found a source for inexpensive UOA testing in Canada.

I used Redline 5W40 during a cold Michigan winter when we where seeing -35°F to -25°F for weeks at a times. Not once did I have any issues with start up noise from lack of good flow and pumpability. In fact on several occasions their where only a handful of vehicles at church because so many could not get their car's started.

Any time I use an ester based oil I always have some consumption at first usually 1/4-1/2 a quart but after I make up that little amount it does not use any again as long as I stick with that oil be it Redline,VP raceing,Motul double ester etc......Odd that got consumption switching from a 30wt Redline product to a 20wt. Well obviously that settles that your engine clearly does not prefer a 20wt.!

I was thinking about running a 40wt once I accumlate more miles on it but at just over 200K KM (120K miles) of easy highway driving I think it's just broken in and not in need of it yet.

The engine uses no oil at all and hasn't used any when I have tried the 0w20 Amsoil too.

Once I use up the remaining bulk of oil filters I bought on BOGO from Advanced Auto Parts I intend to go with bypass filtration. I have a bypass filtration device left over from when I owned my Dodge Dakota Quad Cab....I can not use it on my Camry until I remote mount my filter as it will not fit inthe space that is alloted for the oil filter. I have a Trasko dual full flow/bypass spin on filter.I would like to try and do 12 month oil changes. Redline traditionally does not have legs as long as Amsoils with reguard to how long you can run it but I have some idea's to get around that!

As long as there is no contamination in the oil with insolubles, Silica, Glycol, moisture/water, and fuel dilution and the TBN/TAN numbers are in check and the metals are reasonable there is nothing to stop you from running an extended OCI without having to use a bypass setup on the Syn oil.

I find that most samples are done because of insolubles/silica readings are too high and/or engine temperature is overheating the oil and an oil cooler is needed.

Otherwise I don't see why any normal engine that is naturally aspirated (no turbo), running normal oil temps can't go 25K KM (15.6 K miles) with a quality filter like an EAO if the conditions above are met.

Yes, so local that I could almost walk to the place that can order it up from the US for me. He is a dealer of Redline products.

Yes

One observation about this. You were pretty picky about the phosphorous in mmo, but of course being in fuel it
ll have a way bigger on your cat than oil. But if you do burn any oil Red Line oil sure is high in zddp. If I had a decent motor to put oil in (maybe dad's Formula or one of the Rogues?) I would run redline for sure.

I cant decide whether I want to run the 0w-20 RL or the 0w-20 Biosyn next. At least I have 2k more miles left before I have too :)
