The 20 feet zone was just a common figure. As I said, where I live one may park right up to the intersection unless otherwise indicated.

Listen to the man.

With my wife's accident and ticket even though the "professional" truck idiot was making a illegal right turn from the left turn lane (which is illegal here) my wife got the ticket.

Went to the police station and they said tell the judge. Went to court and they said tough. The court was not there to find out *if* the truck idiot was at fault just my wife. We took photos, I got the same truck and 48 ft trailer and made the turn from the correct lane (and video taped it) and the judge said too bad, the police officer is what he will "judge" by.

Every time I see that cop (mostly at Wal-Mart or the gas station) I give him a ear full and will till the day I die.

Also, Taking photos of parked cars will sadly get you no where. The judge will say you moved the car from the place that the honest officer wrote the ticket.

I thought that also, so I didn't take any pictures.
I got what I wanted (to get it dismissed) but I wish for an official review of these parking policies, but I'm not kidding myself.
to sum up (since this goes back to nov), my town interprets PA law (must be at least 20' from a crosswalk at an intersection) to mean 20' from the corner. I got a ticket stating I was 4' from the corner ( I measured, it was 16') so I refused to pay.
what I've learned is, always err on the side of caution. they fine you for revenue enhancement and expect you'll just pay it because it's so cumbersome to fight it. I refuse to play that game.

GLAD to see that you won!

(wish we did... The $500 PER YEAR in insurance rate increase for 3 years stinks)

Take care, bill

A bend is also a corner. See also "to corner."

Is there some dangling participle that can be employed here (finding that the definition of dangling participles appears rather lengthy- requiring 25 words or more)??

Pablo: No, there's nothing that really "dangles" with a dangling participle.

Careful there, the US is 50 different countries as far as most laws go. Some states even allow local gumnts to impose their own more restrictive policies on top of state law.

If you believe that's the only definition of "corner," then you are of course mistaken.

corner:
1. the place or angle formed by the meeting of two converging lines or surfaces
2. the space within the angle formed, as in a room
3. the place where two streets meet
4. a sharp bend in a road
5. a remote place: far-flung corners of the world
6. any secluded or private place
etc...

that's the point, pun intended. we never got an answer regarding where they measure from. the best the judge could do was say 'don't park too close to the corner'. since this experience has caused me to be extra careful, I'm thinking I'm going to go measure off 20' and put a mark on the curb for myself.
anther idea, and you may say I'm crazy, is I think it would be good for the city to put parking meters in my neighborhood (I'm on 7th st; the metered streets stop at 6th st). not only would this give them some revenue they obviously are in need of, but it would also clearly delineate where and where not you could park.
