I bought my 8k lbs ramps at Pepboys about 2 yrs. ago for 14.99, and they've worked great for fluid changes on my Mazda6.

OP, you're going places. Don't take jiffy lube too seriously. LOL at the side jobs. Having a day job is a great 'alias' for moonlighting and you're even getting referrals from one to another. Who knows, maybe your coworkers deal dope or whatever from the same location, and you're all using your jobs as shills.

^haha, and thanks. I guess i gave the impression that Jiffy Lube is a shotty business, let me tell you it is certainly NOT. We don't scam a service, when we get a RWD we make sure to fill the rear diffrential, if there any leaks, we report them, We do the job RIGHT, And if we can't do the job, we say we can't, and thats how it is at any shop, Do what you can do easily and with out breaking anything, and turn away the rest.
People can bash jiffy lube, but what most don't realize is that we are NOT technicians. we are Mechanics, if not even that. theres a fine line. Your not going to have ASE certified techs working at a quick lube, not for 6 bucks an hour, so you get trained high school students. And jiffy lube is NOT expensive, we're actually very cheap. Yes, opur signature oil change service is 30 something dolalrs, but everything else we do is dirt cheap compared to our competitors, Serpantine belts,coolant flushes, etc. are very cheap here. The guys that work here may not be qualified techs, but we are taught the diffrence between Dexcool and G11. I've worked here for a week and some days now, and all the work has been top quality, sure we may use dirty oil to lube the filter, but we ONLY Hand tighten the filter, and we don't impact the drain plug, we don't do those stupid things quick lube places are known to do. We try to save money, but we don't half arse a job to do it. After working here a bit longer, I see that I just happend to have a bad impression. For example:
We're getting sand for the pits in a few weeks.
I confronted my manager about the lack of gloves and he said they were also arriving in a few weeks.
We're getting our heater fixed.
The only thing that happend since i worked here that really #@$%! a customer off, a guy came in with an older impala, and wanted a radiator flush with our radiator cleaner. I added the cleaner, and the thing sprang 30 leaks. NEedless to say, guy was not happy. I can't see that being the shops fault, although the service writer probably should of warned him of this happening

Dexcool and G-12 are the same, fwiw....unless Jiffy University says otherwise.
imo, people go to JL to avert the reality or avoid the angst of actual professional automobile service. It's like Mercedes owners who think their car is special or undestructable, as an ~excuse~ to neglect it. People think (narrowly) that "I had the oil changed every 3000 miles" is enough to take "good" care of their car...while neglecting major or minor services. Take the example of the guy with the unserviced radiator>cleaner>leaks. Was he fanatical about his radiator services or just in a do-or-die mode?

Yes, and I said G-12..because that's the one that has no or insignifigant difference to Dexcool. I'm giving you a lil ammo if the issue comes up at work. The Radiator Mfg Assn recommends Dex as a top-off or refill of G-12 cars.
Here is a helpfull article, since you are in the rad service busines. I don't suspect MOTOR Magazine is widely read there at JL.

As for "who goes to a Jiffy Lube", I'm ashamed to admit that with my first car I was a) clueless, b) away from home alot
We have Burn sleeves, but there soaked in oil and sweat, so no one uses them, we usually just let a rag hang off our arms and hold it with the non dominant hand untill we get it on the filter, then slowly remove our hands. Every employee has burn marks, it's un-escapable. Surprisingly, the cars really aren't all that hot, except the ones that just come off the high way doing 80 mph and decided to just have an oil change.
Agreed. My dad is one of those crazy guys who insists on changing oil after a long freeway drive, and it has never been an issue.
The only time that I've seriously felt uncomfortable (temp wise) was removing the metal studs for my motor mounts after the car had come off an 80mph drive.
Kiefer: What radiator cleaner do you use? I'm going to dump Prestone's Super Radiator Cleaner into the van tomorrow, I hope it doesn't cause massive leaks.

But this is one Jiffy Lube, not sure if its an avg. Jiffy Lube, or not. Is it an avg quick oil change place? The quick oil change places have damaged an air mass sensor ($500) on my Volvo. I have heard they have cross threaded oil filters, used too high a pressure for trans flush service blowing out seals, stripped threads on transmission pan, could not get a drain plug out and drilled another hole in an oil pan, and have just pumped out the old transmission fluid via the dipstick (rather than drop the pan) before they were doing trans flush. The Jiffy Lube I go to (for state inspection only) always seems to find a wiper blade in need of repair, I wonder if they pull at them to hard and rip it a little.
I am sure most do the job correctly, but my #1 cause for non warranty differential/axle repairs was JiffyLube/Quicklube etc. It was like clockwork, a CrownVic/Towncar/F150 would show up with complaints of a rear end whine or come in on the hook. I would get it on the lift and the fill plug would be missing and JiffyLube had just done a service on the car. Not knocking JL, I can deal with 90wt stink for Chilton time on a diff overhaul/ring and pinion slam. I got on a first name basis with a few of the quicklube managers in north Austin.
