I wonder how valvoline instant oil change compares to Jiffy Lube. I have 2 Honda Accords and I always go to valvoline for the oil change since you can really do it yourself without jacking up the car and go underneath it. I am not comfortable lying under the Accord with just the jack stands on it. Sometime I really wonder did they (valvoline) actually change the oil filter on my Accords. Anyone know how to change the oil on the Accord without jacking it up?

NO. They don't, i do not see any nitril gloves, even though the training video says we are suppose to have them. I am going to buy my own, i don't care what the other bottom techs think, gloves should be mandatory. Atleast they give us bump hats and safety glasses though.
I'd make an anonymous call to OSHA and report them.
I'm lucky- when they change the oil on my Dakota, I can see the filter through the wheel well, and reach it real easily, too. It's a nice bright yellow Pennzoil filter, so I just take a sharpie and write the upcoming change date on it. This eliminates any, ah, "oversights" at the next oil change. In May, the maintenance program ends, and start doing changes on it myself, like I do with our car. That way, no questions...

There are some procedures that your manager is not following.
Is that a Shell owned store or a franchise owned store? Ask for a procedures manual, if they ask why, just say it is for you to better understand them. Then you will know what is supposed to be done. If they throw a fit in the future about you performing something per the procedure, throw the book at them. If they want to do anything about it, call your regional manager.
Stick to your guns and most importantly CYA.

Have you ever heard the phrase "Loose lips sink ships?" If I were you I wouldn't give out anymore info to help identify yourself. You never know who is reading these threads. As a matter of fact, I would edit some earlier posts, if you know what I mean.
Keep at it Kiefer, you will go a long way. All these guys telling you to report people etc. Don't listen to them. As a tech at Jiffy lube, it is not your job to change the world. Keep your head down, take car of yourself(nitrile gloves), work hard.
I'll tell you how well they did our Honda Civic! It was a constant argument over how much oil the car took - they said 4 quarts, our manual said 3.5. The time they missed the double gasket, I asked that the service be repeated and an angry tech slammed the oil catch pan forward getting oil all over the front of the car. My favorite is the time my Wife went, and came home with no radiator cap! Now I have a trolley jack and 2 stands, and no more problems!

Been changing oil in my own shop for over 30 years. NEVER lube gasket, other than oil left on base when old filter comes off. Never replace washer/gasket unless it's torn, broken, or somehow damaged. Use speced oil unless customer asks for something else. Then will pour in WHATEVER they ask for. Had double gasket years ago, made a mess,,no big deal.
In thirty years I've had just about every screwup imaginable but NEVER BECAUSE OF GASKET LUBE OR PLUG GASKET!!!

I use metal ones. I just used that pic because it was the first one I came across. I always wondered how well those plastic ones held up, I guess now I know. I hope you were not hurt.

This thread makes me angry... Its grea that K.S. is filling us in (not that I'd ever go there), but it almost makes me tempted to go to my local one and ask them a bunch of tough questions and then call them idiots for not knowing two things about auto maintenance... It sure appears that this is the case!
Why anyone would go to such a shoddy operation is beyond me... then again, most people are shoddy operations themselves, not giving 2c about anything they do...
oh well, sleep is better than being angry at jiffylube...

there are people out there that don't know squat about cars. my in laws take their cars to quickie lubes for oil changes every 3k and buy their offered services. my brother in law does too. they know nothing about cars. they all have AAA cards in case they get stranded. they buy new cars every 10 years regardless if their 10 year old car is still running fine for that comfort level.
"Cutehumor" has got it right. Most people who own cars are EXACTLY this way. All of my friends and relatives are, except for one friend who is the kind of guy, like me, who does his own oil changes & lots of other maintenance, and visits forums like this one. When you are here, you are in a very select group, a tiny minority of drivers / car owners who care about such things. Most drivers don't give a rat about what goes on under the hood, as long as the lights don't come on and they might even go on driving then, as not care as long as it doesn't leave them by the side of the road.
All of this is why I regard buying a used car as a crapshoot.....
