See if you can raise their standards of service from within. I personally stopped going to JL after I had my oil changed at one and they stole some of the small change I had in my car. At a GM I brought in my own Mobil 1 oil and I caught them trying to put in Mystik 10W-40 conventional oil instead of the Mobil 1.

Give us a report in the future after you have worked there for a while.

To my knowledge, Pennzoil doesn't have a (Platinum) Synthetic Blend. I have not seen a blend from Pennzoil since the old pre-Platinum production bottles of 2004 and prior.

Yep, that use to be in a black bottle and it did not sell. Put it in a gold bottle and called it Truck & SUV and they sell a lot of it.

Just for those that don't know, there are two or I should say three kinds of Jiffy Lube.

1. Company owned Jiffy Lube's. Usually very well run and have strick standards.

2. Franchise Jiffy Lube's. No company control and these are the one's that get the bad name.

3. Any other lube center that people just call Jiffy Lube or that Jiffy Lube type lube center. You can really run in to some winners here.

If a person works for a Company owned Jiffy Lube, their paycheck comes from Shell, and if Shell finds out that someone is not running an honest operation, they are gone.

If the fill hose fits in the opening on the valve cover, it's the right viscosity.

Just got back home from school, no work today, but i start my second day tomorrow. Just to answer some questions:

1)The pay is #@$%!, 6 bucks an hour, but i'm a high school student, with out much bills to pay so it's more than enough.

2) Our fuel system cleaner is like seafoam, put it in a brake booster line, and let it suck it up.

3) No, we do not replace the washers.

4) We do not use fresh oil to lubricate the seal, instead, the guy that trained me told me that there is enough dirty oil on the filter flange itself so lubrication of the seal was not neccesary.

5) We DO, or atleast my location does have a pennzoil synthetic blend, i saw it on one of the stickers.

Forgot how to edit, but to answer the other question, yes our computer data base has all the manufacturer recomended service intrevels (since we do more than oil changes)and oilweight recomendations

Its not really a fuel system cleaner if it never goes through the fuel system. More of an intake/top end cleaner.

We also add it into the oil. Really, heres how it works. There is a top tech, 2 lower tech, courtesy tech, and another guy that stands around looking presentable...tech. I work as a bottom tech, so i never come out the pit, just plug and filter, i swear sometimes i feel like i'm in a frikin' war zone launching plugs from a bunker

Well you can tell who ever is training you that a retired Pennzoil employee said they are full of it. You always replace the crush washer on the drain plug and you NEVER use dirty oil to lube the oil filter gasket. Basic lubrication 101. A customer pays a good price for an oil change they should get good service and this is not it.

I don't know how to use clean oil for the seal, the boss gets #@$%! if we open any new bottles and he would laugh his Rear diffrential off :lol: if i asked to open one so we could use fresh oil for the seals. As far as washers go, we don't have any.
The pay is great for me! 6 bones an hour, I have more money than i can care to spend, and of course as a former pennzoil employee, you may know that i get motor oil for 75 PERCENT OFF!

Also, i heard minimum wage is suppose to go to 8 bucks starting next year right?

I'm not gonna' say you're wrong-you aren't But as a practical matter they can be used a couple of dozen times. I change maybe every 3rd time or so. In my old 80 Datsun I might have changed them 3 times in 50 oil changes. Not really arguing though.

Get a clean squirt bottle with a lockable cap, like a dish detergent bottle, fill it with some 75% discounted cheap dino, keep it handy in the pit. Squirt a little on each gasket.

Easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

They should be using new crush washers, otherwise everyone cranks hard to keep them from leaking which evenually leads to stripped threads or a plug welded into the pan.

Highly vehicle dependent. Some you can get away with it a several times, some will drip if reused once. But there is also the ancillary problem of thread damage.

Did your Datsun have an aluminum pan and steel plug?

After working here, even for one day, i can now see why it is very important to do oil changes yourself. I can't let the oil drip for more than a minute, or else the top guys will finish before me and tell me i'm working to slow, and if i'm working on a RWD vehicle, i have even less time to let the oil drain because then i have to top off the rear diffrential fluid. Unless you own a fleet vehicle, never go any quick lube shop, i hate to do such bad work, but i have no choice. I shudder now of all the times i took my car to a quick lube because i was too lazy, and how they must of treated my car, using dirty oil from the car before or dirty oil from the flange itself as a seal lubricant.
Remember cats, always, always do it yourself, even if it's freezing cold, or time your oci so that you do not have to do it during the winter.
