Got a job at jiffy lube,

Had a problem with a double gasket once and looked back in the oil drain to find the only oil filter in the drain I just used had its gasket still on the filter.

Oh, well just a mess to clean up what do ya want. Could have been worse. Now if I can see the base I check it for gaskets or at least feel for them.

Yes. It made a huge mess. After that, I always look to make sure the gasket is on the old filter, and wipe the sealing flange clean.

I use 3 in 1 oil, or the old dirty oil, whatever I have handy, to lube the new filter gasket. I can't see how it could possibly hurt anything to use the old oil to lube the gasket.

Because: anytime we see a problem such as leaks, we notify the customore WELL BEFORE we even touch the car, usually the customer will then ask 'so can you repair it for me?' the manager then says no, and thats when i come in to make my strike

You could always heat the copper crush washer till red and quench it in water to re-aneal it. Makes it nice and soft. Inspect for cracks first.

All VWs get what ever the customer asks for. But my VW gets Platinum 5w40

True, I'm afraid of them all. You should keep looking for a job as a part time wrench at a reputable place. Even check some Motorcycle dealers. You sound like you can do better.

True story. I worked at a Jiffy Lube for 1 week when I was around 16 - a loooongg time ago. Now, my dad always taught me not to do a job unless it's done right and other good morals which I live for still today. Anyhow - I started as an upper bay tech, vacuum the interior, add the oil ect. Then was being trained on the lower tech - dropping the oil and changing the filter,etc. I remember this like it was yesterday - the manager told me that if there was already a Jiffy Lube filter on the car, just use the windex and wipe it off to look new. Don't change it! I quit on the spot and left. Dad was proud.

Nope - true story. Worst part was the manager of this JL store was a technician at a Pontiac dealer before coming to JL. Subpar tech running a lube joint is just wrong.

It happend to me quite a few years back. When I looked in my rear view mirror I saw a trail of liquid, stopped and shut off the engine. Sure enough double gasket. Luckily I still had a 2 or 3 quarts still left in the engine.
