this tire is relatively new was just released earlier this year. Not sure if I was informed incorrectly but i was told they are the new replacements for the ultra grip ice tires by goodyear. What do you guys think of them? are they in the same tier as something like xice xi3/snow, hakkapelita r3, blizzaks ws80/90? or are they a tier lower? price seems good, can be had for about $100 cheaper then the x ice and also come with a $100 rebate.

i couldnt find any tire reviews where they put these head to head against other tires sadly

It has a tread design that looks identical to the Ultra Grip Ice2 that is available on the international market, but not the USA. The ICE2 is a strong performer in objective tests, and is notable for its superior wet traction. But it gives up some ice traction in exchange for that wet traction. Does the WC Ultra have the same rubber forumulation and internal construction as the ICE2? Only Goodyear knows.

The ICE2 placed 3rd in the most recent NAF/Motor objective testing. Comments from that test:

Ultra Grip Ice2 excels with a unique position among studless tires because it handles wet asphalt so well.

This tire is therefore a sensible alternative for those who drive the most on salty and wet roads.

At the same time, it also has a usable grip on real winter conditions.

Since it is by far the best on wet asphalt and has a good driving feel even on dry surfaces, this Goodyear tire takes home almost full scores from the bare field disciplines.

On snow and ice, the tires provide good grip in the direction of travel - with gas and brakes.

But it has a weaker grip in the corners and is relatively difficult to drive right at the border before the tire drops, where it alternates uneasily between understeer and oversteer.

Fine asphalt properties, low noise level and ditto consumption contribute to a shared third place.

PLUS:
Aquaplaning. Driving characteristics on bare ground, both wet and dry.

MINUS:
Moderate swing grip on snow and ice.

In another objective test, from Aftonbladet in Sweden, the ICE2 scored 4th overall.
Comments from that test:

Goodyear grips well on ice, both when braking and accelerating.
But the side grip is worse. If you steer a little too fast in a tight curve or during an evasive maneuver, you lose grip.Fortunately, things are going well at the back.
On snow, the tire is usually easy to drive, but the side grip makes up for this as well. The front wheels easily lose grip if you steer a little too much, which makes driving difficult.
On wet asphalt, Goodyear is safe and has good grip during an evasive maneuver and when you have to brake quickly.
On dry roads, the properties are not as good. The steering is inaccurate but the tire gets through an evasive maneuver without major problems.
It runs stably on a track and rolls easily.
Good: Longitudinal grip on ice.Driving characteristics on asphalt.
Bad: Side grip on ice.
