Goodyear WeatherReady 2 Tires?

Good evening BITOG,

First time poster and like most of us, somewhat of a car geek. I am in the market for new tires for the wife's CRV. I was settled on Michelin's CrossClimate 2 until I found out a relative worked for GY and could get me a discount. I was looking at their site and noticed they had a new tire that looks almost identical to the CC2 on their site called the WeatherReady 2. Couldnt find any information from reviews Has anyone heard anything about these tires? I know the CC2 are pretty widely regarded so I was wondering if we can deduce that their performance might be similar based on the similar tread profile? Would love to support an American company too but only if the tires can also be safe.

Cheers,
WalkinWhale

Congrats on posting. What year CR-V and what tire size? My current choice is Pirelli Scorpion Weatheractive but I won't need tires for 8-9 years so who knows what will be best then. I use tirerack.com compare to see what ratings they have. Yeah, it's user subjective but it's all I can find. Good luck deciding.

My multiple Goodyear experiences over the years have not great. Not the worst but balance/noise issues.

The old WeatherReady was probably one of the noisiest tires I ever had. I was hoping to try in winter but my sidewalls had major cracks/separating, I think I posted pics here. GY prorated them based on date and tread depth since I had no receipt, they came on car used so positive for that.

The WinterCommand Ultra's they gave me a deal on just won't fully balance even with RF though that could be the technicians also. After 4 attempts, I'm not spending more on them.

I'll wait for the jury to come back with reviews/tests and maybe a great option but currently GY is not in my 1st or even 2nd tier choices.

The tires are new, no one has any winter experience on them yet. They are only available in 6 sizes. If made in USA matters, it appears they are either made in Canada or Chili, depending on the size.

It'd be interesting if you buy these new Goodyears and report back on them after winter.

Made in Chili? My GY Tripletreds were also made in Chile-they wear like iron, awesome in rain (& light snow)-and are noisy as heck! Seems to be a Goodyear “feature”…

I had the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady for my Explorer. I loved those tires. Being in the northeast, I needed a set of tires that could handle winter and I didn’t want a dedicated set that I would have to swap. I put them on at around 25k and replaced them at 80k. They still measured at 5/32nd but I usually change tires at that depth since I haven’t found a tire that performs well in inclement weather at that depth. When I changed the set, I went with the Michelin CrossClimate 2 because they were about the same price as the Goodyears but I wanted to try it since it had great reviews.

The Goodyears were great in snow and rain but did get gradually louder as they got older. They didn’t sound obnoxiously loud like others have stated but snow performance was definitely lacking by the time I changed the tires.

I also had the Assurance Weatherready tires for about 5 years and 45k-ish miles. They were great tires, but started to get really loud as they wore. Really loud. However, I don't know how similar those would be to this new iteration.

Welcome to BITOG 🥳

Since the Weatherready 2 is new, nobody will have any real experience with them. And like any all-weather tires, the real test is how it performs in the winter/snow! So nobody will know for another 6 months

Most new all-weather tire designs seem to be the same :sneaky:

Well, it's good looking, arguably better looking than the CC. I'm leaning toward Pirelli Scorpion Weatheractive or Continental Crosscontact LX25 at the moment but who knows what will be best by the time I need tires.

235-65-17. Cousin mentioned that this size should be released on September 1st and I can wait that long if need be. I totally forgot about tire rack to be honest. I never thought the reviews done by the company themselves were that informative, but I will use it for aggregation of user reviews.

Yeah it’s a **** shame that the only USA company seems to have less than stellar reputation than elsewhere in the world.

I’m thinking I might just do that once they release and report back. Will keep everyone informed.

Thank you for the input. Slightly less worried about noise overall as this is the wife’s car. She had a bad bearing out on her car once and it wasn’t until I got in her car and I heard it howling that I asked her if that noise bothered her and she said she didn’t even notice it!! I just want to make sure she has the safest tires for snow time because she grew up in Southern Cali and gets very very nervous when there is snow on the ground.

Well, I can't tell you too much about their performance in the snow, as it only snowed a few times while I had them and I didn't need to leave the house much. However, they were terrific in the rain.

The CC2 is a darn fine tire. It’s going to be hard to beat, unless you like to corner hard - on an aggressively-driven RWD they step out more readily that any other tire I’ve owned, but did so with so much grace as to be easily controlled and modulated. Would gladly buy another.

I’ve only had one set of Goodyears that really did excellent over the life of the tire - it was in their foul weather line, but 15 years ago and I hated to see them discontinue that tire.

It might be decent?

I am in the San Francisco bay area, would the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady2 as it is a 3 peak mountain snow flake tire will it be a good choice for a daily driver? The car won't be in the snow but will have seasonal rain.

Hey neighbor. I think I’d probably go all season over all weather since the dry performance is usually better and they should still be great in the rain. Having said that, I run the CrossClimate 2s because I do love to get out to Tahoe for skiing in the winter and they are fantastic in all conditions.
