I am looking for tires for the Pilot and came across Goodyear Viva 3 tires from Walmart. At $92 each, they're certainly a good value. From what I read, these seem to be an improvement over the criticized Viva 2's.

Opinions? And please, I don't want to turn this into a Walmart bashing thread.

updated version of a below average tire. I'd look elsewhere unless price is your sole criteria.

I'd turn it into a goodyear bashing thread before a wally bashing thread, but that's me.

My Brother finally took his Volt to the local discount tire to replace the out of round Goodyear Assurance....something or other...that it left the factory with. there was a vibration he'd been chasing since he bought it last year. there was a bent rim, he bought another.
not as bad, but still there.
when he put the snows on it , smooth as silk, no vibration. back to the goodyears, back to the vibration.
took it to discount, they checked all 4 rims, (all nice and round), did their best to rebalance the tires, basically all 4 were out of round, one bad enough they couldn't really compensate for it.

he went on price, got a set of GT Champiro..somethings, about $50/ea. so far, so smooth. (full disclosure he did have to go back once, something was bouncing around inside the right rear... when they put the new valve stem into the TPMS, they had used the wrong stem, and the sensor had fallen off, and was bouncing around inside. they put it back together with the right parts, and it still works!)

Is your tire size 235/60-18?

IMO the Douglas tires are better than the Vivas. The Douglas is also made by Goodyear, and most of them are even US-made as well.

But if you're going to use an all-season tire year-round and aren't using dedicated winter tires, consider one of the 3-peak all-season tires, sometimes called "all weather" tires, such as:
Vredestein Quatrac 5
Goodyear Weatherready
Nokian WRG3 or WRG4
Toyo Celsius CUV

if it matters, the Celsius is made in the USA in your size

Unfortunately this class of tire falls into the "rim protector" category.
How many miles is the vehicle driven per year?
Driven in snow?
Do all Pilots of that year have the same size tire?

I'm not sure I'd call it a good value.

Cheap price is more like it.

They're black and round... made by a major manufacturer and sold by a major retailer...

I often see this line in tire reviews...
Goodyear= good for a year......

As a TLE tech. They are OK tires. I've seen a bit of them that are out of round, yet no one comes back... And don't even think of the Goodyear Assurance Outlasts, the shop had quite a few of those that came with bubbles from the factory and some that where MAJORLY out of round. I would look for something better if it was me. Go in store and see what they can order for you off of ATD. Prices should be similar for better tires. I tell people all the time that you can be a 2x better tire for the same price, but they can't wait a day.

What tire size?

The General RT43 is a much better tire IMO. As someone else also brought up of they have the General Exclaim HPX in your size that is a good inexpensive tire also.

I had one of the earlier Viva models... nice and round, balanced easy, rode great.

But something in the bead rubber just "decomposed" and it crumbled before my eyes, rendering it useless and not re-mountable.

I too am not sure I would call them, "a good value". As noted earlier, seem more like a low priced tire that happen to have a recognizable brand name on them.

Using the WM purchase and value with low price parameters, on WM.com the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All-Season Plus for $110 each for the 235/60-18 looks like a better overall value to me. For what they are worth reviews decent on TR, and they are currently priced significantly less than competitor websites. I'd give them a look before the topic GY. RT 43s a good option, but in this case significantly more expensive.

And no WM or GY basher here. If I didn't have b&m DT stores, WM might be an option for me. And no problem with GY either. Currently have a set of OE Assurance Fuel Max which have been ok. And have been looking at the Assurance Comfortred Touring as an option for a next purchase.

i put walmart goodyear vivas on a used 2004 toyota corolla in 2006, in michigan while working in ontario. they were fine up and down eastern canada and the u.s. in all kinds of weather for 4 years, 40k miles or so.

Those General Exclaims ARE a MUCH better Wally tires than the Douglas's IMO. Never tried the Vivas, but they never looked that impressive to me.

Just bought my second set of Goodyear Assurance Ultras at DT … first set ran 44k … would of done better if rotated more. They ride far better than the Continental's we pulled off … no vibration at all … don't believe in buying rock bottom in any brand …

I think the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All-Season Plus for $110 each at Walmart .com must have been a decent deal. Not too long after I posted it, only available through "marketplace" sellers on Walmart.com , and price had increased ~$15 each.
