goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3

Im considering getting some Goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3 for my mustang. 235/50/18

I have 15,500 on the original BFGs and they probably have about 35-40 percent tread left, but tire choice is selling the goodyears for $100 a piece and there is also an $80 rebate. Even though I don't need tires right now it is a hard deal to pass up.

Does anyone know how the goodyear tires wear compared to the bfg's?

Or if anyone has experience with these tires in a different size that would be great too.

There will always be a good deal on tires, especially if you're not super particular as to what you run. If you don't need them now, don't buy them now IMO.

I had Eagle F1 GS-D2, the previous version of GS-D3, on my '00 MB E430. The performance & handling was okay on dry and wet roads, but it was so noisy that I changed to different tire after only 14-15k miles.

From what I hear Eagle F1 GS-D3 is a better design, it improves all aspects of performance, ride, noise ... Tread life is not so good, you should expect about 20-25k miles if you drive easy and rotate the tire frequently.

If you need a new set of tire in less than 1 year, and with the low price and rebate I would buy it now.

I don't know how the GSD3s compare to the BFGs (especially since you don't mention which BFGs) but I had a pair of GSD3s on my 95 Firebird Formula back when these tires first came out (2002?) and I loved them!! I even got stuck in a bad ice storm a couple of days after getting them put on and they gave me no troubles driving in that slushy mess! I found the GSD3s to have excellent dry traction but they also worked well in the rain too. Treadwear seemed to be very good for me, a little bit better than the BFG Comp TAs that I had on a different Firebird (a 95 Trans Am, which is mechanically identical to the 95 Formula)

I'm pretty sure the 17's come with Pirellis and I know 18's come with BFGs.


I'll probably just hold off for now. Like doodfood said, i'm sure there will be a sale or promotion when I need them.

I had the GSD3s 225 45 17 on my BMW, I loved them too. They were fantastic in wet conditions. I think I got about 16k miles from them. I did run an AutoX season and three track days with them. The Goodyear rebates seem to be running at least every 6 months lately.

As long as it is not made in China, it should be good on wet.
The weak point is dry cornering is so-so due to lack of straight rib pattern.
The best one is made in Germany.
