Here are some coolants and motor oil spotted on display at a commercial truck stop on Highway 1 east of Calgary. Enjoy.

Remember, the glycol in many coolants taste good to animals.
That's why the dog and the cat lick your legs after a shower....they're going after the soap product which didn't fully rinse off.

It doubles as an embalming fluid.
I've never seen that on antifreeze in my area. I don't like 50/50. I checked a gallon of non brand name I bought at the dollar store last year and it only registered down to 10 degrees. Should have said 20/80.

I've never been licked after a shower by an animal 🤣🤣 is that a real thing?

Whats with the skull and crossbones? Are they afraid somebody will drink it or is it just a bad product and people should stay away from it?

They have to do that now-adays with everything.

Case in point a local middle school they had to call EMS due to two students drinking antifreeze... Guess Tide Pods are no longer fashionable.

That can't be a real thing. I've had lots of pets and they never did that. Maybe I'm just nasty tasting. I'm going to have to ask the wife and see what she says.
IDK. If my dog is licking my wife after she showers and she lets him do it. I’ve got bigger issues than weak antifreeze. Just sayin’

It's a GHS (Global Harmonized System) pictogram for "fatal" or "toxic". It's a non-written symbol - so no worries about language translation - to tell people what danger, if any, it presents.

My beagle would lick my mom's legs when it was hot out. She always theorized it was due to the salt.

It tastes good to people too. People involved with FDA know its history and the to story of Elixir sulfanilamide.

In 1937, a pharmaceutical company named S. E. Massengill introduced a new liquid form of the antibiotic sulfanilamide, marketed as elixir sulfanilamide. This product, however, contained diethylene glycol, a toxic substance often used as antifreeze, which led to severe kidney failure and the deaths of over one hundred individuals, including many children. The elixir was released without adequate safety testing, in a context where pharmaceutical regulations were minimal and companies were not required to prove the safety of new drugs. Reports of fatalities prompted the FDA to investigate, ultimately identifying the elixir's poisonous ingredient. Despite public outrage and the tragic consequences, Massengill faced only minor charges related to misbranding. This incident highlighted significant gaps in drug safety regulations and led to the enactment of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1938, establishing stricter standards for drug approval and labeling. The scandal not only transformed public perception of pharmaceuticals but also spurred greater federal oversight and research into drug safety.

“The good stuff” usually has a skull and cross bones.
Yes that could mean it is pirate food. Thus the creation of the "Mr Yuk" symbol to be clearer to kids.

Most but not all antifreeze now contains a bad-tasting substance (denatonium benzoate) added to discourage consumption.

Must be something new. I looked at a gallon jug I bought a few months back and it didn't have it. Of course I kinda figured everyone knows not to drink it.

If I'm not mistaken, all antifreeze sold in the US for at least a decade has been required to have a nasty tasting bittering agent added.

Edit: I looked it up and it's required in 17 states and most manufacturers have agreed to use it in all their products.

Understandable. The photos were taken in Canada and it’s the law here to label poisonous goods with the skull and crossbones.
I probably could have read the post a little closer instead of just looking at the pictures "east of Calgary" 👍
