Good tire on a budget?

General or Cooper, as others have noted.
I've had both and found them both to be pretty good and a great value.

Get on the Tire Rack website and look over their selection in your size for an idea on price and quality. Then check some of the other outfits like Discount Tire Direct. You want to compare the traction, treadwear, and high speed heat resistance ratings of each one. Those numbers are just a rough guide but at some point you'll have an idea which company is giving you the most for the money. The ratings, (which are required on the sidewall) go like this: "500, A A" with a higher number indicating better wear and A being the best for traction and heat resistance. You will find there are always tradeoffs. Sticky tread doesn't wear as well, for example.
Something with a low treadwear number, and a C in traction and heat tolerance is NOT a great tire. Tire Rack used to, at least, publish the rating for every tire they stocked.

Since I'm on a budget because I'm at college full time, I need a decent, well priced tire.
But I dont want to bump quality and safety as well.

I have to replace the Firestone FR710, they did a good job and were ok.

Let me know your inputs.

Thanks!

Where are you in Atlantic Canada?
I'm near Windsor On. and have easy access to US Detroit tires/prices.

I recently replaced the tires on my Uplander 225/60/17 with Goodyears at Walmart in town here in their "clearance" sale for $75/each.

You made it through winter, no hurry to get tires now. Ask around your local CTC & Walmart etc for deals/sales .. something will come up.

yes I'm in Canada, but I wish I was in the US sometimes for shipping and price.

I know the altimax rt43 are on sale at my chevy dealer, see nothing but positive things about it, I also tend to go with cooper tire, cs3 or cs5 maybe, decent price also.

I also know hankook optimo h727 it quit popular too and offer a comfy ride.

I once picked up two tires on there for about $60 (guy was asking $100, talked him down). Had about 8/32's worth of tread on them, new was 10.

Now, yes. When I had to buy tires for my Taurus, it apparently wasn't that common and they were all very expensive.
