Get on the Tire Rack website and look over their selection in your size for an idea on price and quality. Then check some of the other outfits like Discount Tire Direct. You want to compare the traction, treadwear, and high speed heat resistance ratings of each one. Those numbers are just a rough guide but at some point you'll have an idea which company is giving you the most for the money. The ratings, (which are required on the sidewall) go like this: "500, A A" with a higher number indicating better wear and A being the best for traction and heat resistance. You will find there are always tradeoffs. Sticky tread doesn't wear as well, for example.
Something with a low treadwear number, and a C in traction and heat tolerance is NOT a great tire. Tire Rack used to, at least, publish the rating for every tire they stocked.
