Who has a good selection of TV's online?

I want to buy one for my folks' 50th wedding anniversary, but it needs to be a certain size to fit in a built in cabinet.... so I need a good selection.

I've already found one at BestBuy online that would likely work quite well... along with free shipping and local "support"... but am looking for other options.

I've already looked at BB, NewEgg, ABT, and HHGregg.

Only mentioned HH because they just opened a new store nearby. I haven't been to the store yet, but I'm not impressed with what I saw online.

Here's the TV, that is the biggest one (that I've found) that will fit in the opening... It is a 29" Insignia from Best Buy.

Since it is a Best Buy brand, I would be buying the $30 - 4 year extended warranty along with it.... and at $189 for the TV, I can afford to.

This would be a good choice for my parents, as they have a Best Buy store about 10 miles away.

I'm assuming that the opening in the cabinet was designed for an old school 27" CRT Television set.

B&H photo, QVC, HSN, SHOP NBC, Crutchfield
many of these "off brands" have built in dvd and a USB for thumbdrive

That will have a tiny screen height similar to a 19-25" tube; this may be too small to see from any distance. I havent upgraded my Pana Superflat 32" data grade monitor BC Id have to get a 46" widescreen to get the sameor modest bump in picture height and a 46 is too big a beast . I prefer 4:3 aspect in small screens. I would rec a min 32" ws for mid idstance viewing.

Note: I wouldnt spend 15% of the cost of the TV for a warranty. Plus BB might be gone in a year. Do you have a CC that extends the warranty 100% ?

What they're using as a TV room is small... if it is bigger than 12' x 12', then I'd be really surprised.

They used to have the TV in the front living room, but they wanted to convert the front room into more of a "formal" living room... so they moved their recliners and are now using this back room as their TV room.

The TV room was actually my bedroom... and what has been converted into the built in TV cabinet/bookcase/storage nook, used to be a small closet.

Most credit cards already do this.

Amazon has a good selection. Newegg has a good selection and great service. Newegg has lots of sales, too, which Amazon generally doesn't have.

I bought a 37" LCD TV on Newegg about 6 months ago and the transaction went very well

I also recently bought a dehumidifier from ABT Electronics and it was a good transaction. I think they have TVs, too.

I do like Costco since you get a "free" two year warranty and the return is no questions asked (I have firsthand experience). That being said 29" is such an odd size and they don't have a huge selection. Can you fit a 32" in there on an angle, or otherwise shoehorned into the space?

I agree with other posters, the widescreen format of new tv's really makes them seem a lot smaller than the same diagonal measurement 4:3 screen.

Edit: I see people mentioning credit card warranties. Maybe they work, I don't know. At costco you bring it in 18 months later with the tv and reciept and they give you store credit and you walk out with a new TV 10 minutes later. When I worked at Best Buy day 31 you were SOL. If you brought up some credit card warranty they would have looked at you like you had a lobster in your ear.

Double Edit: Here's what my Visa Signature gets me: "Only valid and reasonable repairs made at the manufacturer’s authorized repair facility are covered." No thanks. I don't ever want a piece of repaired electronics, I'd rather have that new TV over there. And not the hassle of shipping a TV to an authorized repair facility, and giving them money to fix in the hopes my credit card takes care of me.

I'll write a longer post now that I am not reading this on my phone. Regarding Costco, I've been told that a Costco TV bought with an American Express card results in 3 years of warranty. Manufacturer + 1 year from Costco + 1 year from American Express. It has been a couple years, but that is what I was told by an AmEx rep and I've seen similar opinions posted on sites like FatWallet. It may have changed now that Costco sells SquareTrade warranties.

Best Buy isn't bad if you catch the right sale. I have one TV from Amazon, one from Costco, and one from BB. At the time, the BB price was better than online (it was a fairly new model at that time) and I had a 55" rear projection TV I needed taken away, which BB delivery does and the online folks won't.

With that said, I'd encourage you to check out FatWallet or SlickDeals for TV deals. I also use a browser plugin called PriceBlink that will check other sites for prices on a model. CamelCamelCamel.com will show you Amazon price history for a product. CamelEgg for Newegg. CamelBuy for Best Buy.

The Best Buy private brand (Insignia) set that I linked to earlier in this thread is now on sale for $179. At that price, I'm going with it.

Plus, they'll ship it to me for free. No need to drive the pickup to go get it (with gas currently at $3.85 a gallon).

I looked at the cabinet, and it would be really awkward to put anything bigger than this in the cabinet. It is only 29.25" inside, and I haven't seen any 32" class TV's that are that narrow. This 29" TV is the biggest that I found.

No matter which online company, make sure it's an authorized dealer for whatever brand you buy. I'd rather spend a few $$ more than to buy from an unauthorized place and have warranty/after-sales problems, when the manufacturer can refuse any such service because you didn't buy from an authorized seller.

Always check that - it's important. Cheapest offer is not always the best.
