Hi folks,

I'm currently playing guitar again and enjoying my little Fender. It's a decent guitar actually, Its a CD60. Not high end, but built like a tank with a nice tone.

I've been playing long enough, that I've been thinking about upgrading.

Any suggestions for a mid priced acoustic electric? I'm leaning towards a cutaway. I was actually looking at the Yamaha Compass CX-700 series. Possibly a lower end martin, possibly a higher end fender. lol....so many.

I play a lot of fingerpicking. I'd like to work in a bit of blues and some folk.

Check out Art & Lutherie. Made of solid cedar tops in Canada by Godin, the same company that makes Seagull and several others. Fine guitars at great prices. You tube is your friend here.

Art & Lutherie was my first guitar and it's a huge step up from the basic fenders. Great little guitars.

In the $600+ or so range you can get the lower end Taylors and Breedloves that are great guitars.

In my opinion, avoid anything that's made out of unconventional materials at the low end. Some of the high end carbon guitars sound great but on the low end (Like the formica or whatever Martins and Taylors) aren't so awesome.

Thanks guys,

Yes, I've been all over youtube. I find reviews to be biased and our sound is a little limited.

Art and Lutherie are actually quite nice. I find the action a bit high, but that can be fixed. I find them a bit generic for some reason. I actually had a antique cutaway a few years ago. It was nice, but I'm not sure they equaly the price theyre asking for them these days. A seagull or Simon and Patrick isn't much more.

I may try a Breedlove. That's a guitar I've never picked up.

For a guitar that's going to go the distance, is an all solid body worth it?

Heck yeah, they're AWESOME!! That's what my friend plays in his band and it can literally sound like an orchestra when played a certain way.

Godin products get my vote. I have two, a 6-string Seagull and a 12-string Art & Lutherie. Great guitars, solid tops, great sound.

You have to go to as many music stores as possible and play them to see how they feel when handled and played.
