Was thinking maybe Maxlife atf but some say it's not good if you live in a cold climate? Anything else i could use? I also seen quaker state multi vehicle etc...

Nothing, except you have to buy it at a dealer. Plus, most store bought other brand Mercon-Vs have multiple specs. This is a benefit if you have several brands of cars in the driveway.

Any brand of Mercon-V or multi-uni ATF is good enough.

The full synthetics, IMO, are better.

i saw some at Walmart when i was out of town(they arent allowed in my city). plus whats wrong with a dealer? i work in a ford/mazda parts dept and get really offended when people talk down about us.

Valvoline Maxlife red bottle did really well in the AX4N in our 2001 Ford Windstar.

I too worked at a Ford dealer years back in Parts and floated in Service when they needed it. Just so you know I have been on your side of the counter before I proceed.

What gives dealers such a bad name is the unrealistic prices they charge. Why would someone pay $10-$15 a qt for conventional ATF from a dealer, and upwards of $30+ a qt for synthetic, when they can get a better synthetic ATF aftermarket for $10-$12 at the max? Really it goes for anything you buy from a dealership parts dept.

Parts, fluids, accessories, etc... dealers charge way too much. I felt guilty every time I sold something to a walk in customer or service customers having their vehicle worked on. Felt like a rapist even when I discounted the parts. With very few exceptions( and also replacement body parts - ALWAYS go OEM on those ) there isn't a thing the dealer can sell you that is available aftermarket that is cheaper and you can usually find the same quality or even better aftermarket as well. Part works + same/better quality + cheaper price = no brainer.

I have personally seen the ridiculous mark up dealers have on parts and that is why people get so ticked and why dealers get a bad rap. Costs too much. Not everything of course and some dealers do try and offer fair pricing but most are crooks. The one I worked at sure was.

My personal preferrences in order would be...

1 - Royal Purple MaxATF
2 - Redline ATF( believe it is the D4 for Mercon V )
3 - Amsoil ATF
4 - Valvoline Mercon V Synthetic
