No.

If I am stupid enough to lose it, I deserve it. (Though I do not keep any cash in my wallet.)

That kind of was my angle when I left my iphone accidentally and it was never found/returned.

My stupid hundreds of dollars mistake.

I honestly doubt it was ever much better in reality. All the ills of society existed as far back in time as you look.

Those prius drivers.. ohh yea... the guys that do 35mph on entrance ramps and congest traffic with their lack of brains to merge smoothly at the speed of traffic.. Oh yea, I will "cloud" them or any other car that can't drive worth a darn.. driving 55mph in the middle lane on the interstate with a posted 70mph.... what ARE they thinking..let's save gas.... when I bright them to move over I get the finger.. [censored] is up with that. STAY TO THE RIGHT UNLESS YOU ARE PASSING SOMEONE.. I need bigger injectors for more smoke.... my +70cc aren't doing it anymore.

Back to the OP....

That is related to the OP. How is that "courtesy", or perhaps better labeled hate that you show to those people any different in the end all than your expectations for courtesy and "morals" on the part of the guy in your OP.

I dont see a difference in the final element. Both are rude and discourteous means of behaving in situations where the "higher ground" could have been taken.

You will be my one exception.

If I ever found your wallet or something similar..I would NOT return it.

Of course you don't mind if I use your credit cards, checking account, cash, driver's license, and your identity in general right? Cuz well you were "stupid" enough to lose it...right?

You are human, there is ALWAYS a first time.

Thats what happened when my wife lost her cell... the finder actually started using it! Some people have no fear or regards for others' property. Guess thats why this topic doesnt really surprise me...

I once came across a car wedged in a ditch several feet off the road in the early hours of the morning. I didnt have any chains or anything to pull the car out with but saw a woman acting frantic and stopped to see if everything was ok. Turns out she was just a worthless drunk that had wrecked. She was frantic because she was basically caught for drunk driving as soon as someone reported the accident. So i called and reported it and went on my way. A couple miles up the road I came across an officer running radar and informed him and he took care of it I assume. Figures the one time I get a chance to something good its some drunk driver that thankfully just got a car stuck and didnt kill anyone.

Yes, the Boss Hogg idea that one should be paid for pretending to be a decent human being. The appropriate response to this is the old boot to the head. When the thug wakes up, just point out that working a Protection racket if frowned upon in your neighborhood and could be unhealthy.

Really? if they just drove right I wouldn't have a reason to smoke them.. do 55mph in the middle or left lane in a posted 70mph and you are far game..
Otherwise I'm perfect

I just don`t understand why people these days can`t help out their fellow man and do good deeds without expecting to be "reimbursed". Humanity has gone to total [censored]!

Its all business. Besides being "all about me", its all business. Youre a slave to your job for the most part, and most dont have the financial savvy to get out of the usury that the money changers impose on the population. So the thought process is what is best for and makes the most money for the company. Ill bet the OP is trained on how to augment the sale on whatever he does. Every retail and sales industry does that.

So people want more, people are greedy, they want something for nothing, they want to maximize their income and profit, so that is how they think.

Not agreeing with it, just stating what I see as the obvious.

Let's put it in another direction though. If the OP is lending trucks, and I leave something in a truck that I rented (Im guessing industry wise from what Ive gathered in his posts), and then I call up and ask them to get it back to me... If UPS costs $x to send and they charge me $y to do it, are they in the wrong? Or is it just business when it is occurring the other way around.

Case in point. I left a phone charger at a hotel once. They found it and would send it to me. They charged $12 to send it. Now I know full well that a USPS flat rate small box, which would fit it, is $5.35. Why shouldnt they send it back to me for $5.35? Or is it magically different because they are a business? Shouldnt they send it out of the goodness of their heart and absorb the cost? Heck, send it to me for free, right? Dusty, Im sure your company would do this for me, right?

So youre justifying your discourteous behavior and playing police as acceptable, yet complain at this guy's discourteous behaviour? LOL.

fell over. Talk about awesome morals. He was at our store for over 30 minutes and just recieved a $30 voucher good in store only.

The guy was driving a new chevy truck so I'm guessing he needed money to make his truck payment. He was the the type of person to look for lost items and then demand a reward before you get your wallet..purse back etc..

I deal with these types of people daily. But he has been the worst I have delt with in a while. AND he had his wife with him and she kept a straight face.. I just LOOOOOVE the people in this area.. so honest, friendly, caring and have morals

Don't people that get something for nothing disgust you? There's a guy in this thread

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubb...345#Post2701345

who actually claims to have a "donor" for his college expenses. Sounds like another person with their hand out, expecting something for nothing. Rather than work his way through college, someone else is footing the bill.

Quote:
I can't transfer with just a few classes remaining. My scholarship donor DESPERATELY wants me out of that school. I would have sto start my last 60 hours over again at another school. I'm looking at Hardin Simmons in Abilene Tx. for grad school.

There's always those people with their hand out expecting someone else to pay their way in life, isn't there?

Then there's this guy in this thread

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubb...513#Post2661513

who is actually complaining about a settlement offer. Just another person trying to shake down someone else, just like the guy with your ramp demanding a reward.

Quote:
My lawyer's office informed me, the settlement offer was LESS than $15,000. Are they kidding? It's insulting that they would even bring a figure like that up. I REFUSE to sign anything so far.

It sure makes you realize how many people there are who try to make money off of others, always with their hands out expecting someone else to grease their palms, wanting something for nothing. Too lazy to really work for it, they expect someone else to hand it to them. No morals at all.

Yup, you and I are in agreement about people like that.

If I stayed on occasion at that Hotel chain and they charged me more than twice the price of actual shipping, I would tell them to not bother and I would NEVER set foot in that chain's hotels EVER again.

Not only that I would probably tell others I know not to stay there either as they are not "guest" friendly.

Not that even if you only stayed with that place for the first time ever should they charge like that, IF they want you as a return guest.

Screwing "the customer" is bad for business...eventually because they WILL go somewhere else where they are treated well.

But it takes time and effort for an employee which they hadnt planned to do shipping for my item to do that. At, say, $50/MH burdened rate, this is fairly reasonable.

Or should the business, designed to make money, provide me charity? Should I EXPECT charity from the business to do this out of the goodness of their heart when their sole existence is to make money, not spend time giving me a freebie?

So if I find something that belongs to a business and bring it back to them, how is it any different?

Im not advocating one way or another. But there is good philosophy in this discussion which is why it is interesting to me.

My younger son left his phone on a cruise ship on a vacation several years ago.
The cruise line called a stored number ("mom", my wife) wanting only to know where they could send the phone.
I was very favorably impressed, and although Carnival has never been my first choice in cruise lines, I recommend them heartily to those looking for an inexpensive vacation or who want to try a first cruise at minimal cost.
For the cost of shipping back that phone, Carnival gained a lot of favorable informal promotion from me.

Whats the bottom line? He wasn't doing it to be a good samaritan or because it was right, it was to profit on somebody else's loss. Bet he's one of those "steal it then return it" guys which is very common in retail.
