Good free flowing filter(supertech?)

Ive read alot on here about filters and it seems to me that a great flowing, ok filtering filter is the way to go. Ive seen the tests and the regular ol purolator prem plus looks good, but whats up with these supertech filters from Walmart that everyone talks about, seems that a Walmart filter would get the cold shoulder on a site like this?

I'm of the opposite opinion in that I'm looking for the finest filtering media. Since the 1988 Detroit Diesel/AC Filter ASTM test demonstrated that particles in the 2-22 micron range cause most engine wear, with even the PureOne filtering down only to about 11 microns per Grease's "Mercruiser" study, that was enough for me to go with high filtration, especially since no one seems able to prove that such filters DON'T flow sufficiently.

That said, if you want highest flow, the Mercruiser study's flow numbers showed that Hastings would definitely be the way to go, followed by K&N, SuperTech, and STP, in that order, although the latter three are fairly close to each other. The Hastings really stands out in regards to flow, at least for the small block Chevy filters Grease tested, although it filters down only to about 21 microns. If Hastings has a "store locator" function at their website, you'd probably do just fine using that to buy local and install same.

Looks like about the only way to get to the numbers you like would be a good full flow filter then a real good bypass filter. I'm not a bypass fiter fan, but can see their potential benefit if you really want to get long (well over 200k mile) life out of an engine.

The Supertech is one of the best bangs for the buck IMO. If you want cheap without sacrificing quality then go with ST(or probably other cheap champion labs filter). The media is a good compromise too.

But if your looking for flow and higher quality, spend the extra buck on a Purolator.
