Not true for all cases.

European car manufactures recommend oil grade based on driving condition in Europe, especially on no speed limit on Autobahn. The engine can be run at redline hours, while in US the engine is barely touch 2500-3000 RPM.

Oil temp at redline is much higher than at 3000 RPM, therefore thicker oil is needed.

Oil brand: some car manufactures collude with oil company and they print that oil brand on the manual and/or on the oil fill cap.

Automotive technicians are not experts on oil, many dealers/garages just use 1 or 2 grades for all vehicles. Also, they may buy cheap bulb oil to make extra profit.

Car manufactures are conservative in the oil change interval, usually the oil can lasted much longer than recommended in the manual or by oil life monitor.

One thing for sure: if car manufactures recommend synthetic then you should use synthetic for full OCI, if you use conventional then you should reduce OCI to no more than 2/3 of synthetic.

I wonder if the OP's account got hacked.

Sounds like one of those scam "review sites" where a machine seems to do most of the writing and it makes little sense at all. The right keywords are there but it makes little sense and is in bad English.

I'm guessing the OP copy/pasted that and forgot to put it in quotes.

no no no, the manual is an average of the entire "nation" so for example(s), if you live in the deserts of Arizona, NM or SE Texas, you would follow the Severe or "Extreme" duty schedule.

Can you post a pic of an owner's manual that says this?

I'll buy that. The manual gives a range of options (in most cases) and you pick the option that makes sense for your driving style and conditions

I'd like to see one that says to use the severe schedule when operated in Arizona, New Mexico or SE Texas.

2004 Honda S2000 Owner Manual: Follow the Maintenance Schedule for Severe Conditions if you drive your vehicle MAINLY under one or more of the following conditions:

Driving less than 5 miles per trip or less than 10 miles per trip in freezing temperature.

Driving in extremely hot (over 90F) conditions.

Driving in mountainous conditions.

Driving on muddy, dusty or de-iced roads.

Note: If you only OCCASIONALLY drive under a "severe" condition, you should follow the Normal Condition Maintenance Schedule.

Well thanks. I ran out to my BMW and both Toyota's OM and they don't say that. Guess I shouldn't assume none do.

I owned a 06 Honda Accord V6, read the manual but turns out I found out about using 10w-30 right here or atleast the part of the manual being an average (can't recall that exact person) eventhough I do recall reading about the mountainous, dusty conditions and towing conditions but do not recall the over 90 degree and hot conditions written explicitly like that in my manual. Ironically, the 10-30 didn't factor into my oil equation because I used a "non severe cycle" viscosity grade in the 5w-20 (from the Accord forums when MC 5w-20 was a popular oil) despite the "oil cap saying" 5w-20(which is really 5w-30 which is really just an average and so on). You see the car was originally speced for 5w-30 and then finding out here that is just an average of the entire nation just about a month ago. This is a car I owned since 2006 but haven't for not even 2 years now.

I think the original poster was just trying to point out something like you mentioned. My Google mind tricks show that this rubbish has been used in those scam review sites, as you point out.

Do they have sweatshops in China putting out this horrible English?
