Talk about what a problem trying to find someone who carries them. I did find a diesel shop near me that can order them. He quoted me $5.65 for a filter....sounds like a good enough deal for me. Said it would take 2 days to get. I'm not trying to be cheap, just seeing if $5.65 is a good deal. Anybody know if this filter is the new filter media? Part number: LF3604, it's the PH16 version for my Jeep Grand Cherokee V8. Wish I could run a longer filter but it would hit the upper control arm.

The Fleetguard LF3894 Stratapore I use on my Dodge/Cummins is $8.50 plus shipping from an online source.
"Stratapore" will be printed on the filter if the one you ordered has this synthetic fiber media.

The lf3487 which is a fl1a equivlent with synthetic media I cant find for less than about $10.

Go to Fleetguard.com and click on Catalog. You can plug in a Fleetguard number or other manufacturer's number and it will bring up all fleetguard numbers for that application. Within each Fleetguard filter listing it may include alternate filters such as the synthetic media (stratapore I think).

I am paying a little under $6 each for in stock Fleetguard LF697s at my local Ford/Sterling dealer (Motor City Truck). The LF697 is the extra long version of the standard Ford FL-1A.

I can't run a longer filter on my '96 Grand Cherokee with the V8, on the inline 6 it's possible. That's what i did on my '93 cherokee with the 4.0 inline 6 when I had it. I've got suspension goodies in the way if i were to run a long filter. I'm just wondering if the part number LF3604 is the better filter media?

Doesn't look like the synthetic media and they don't show any alternates. Here is what it says on their site:

"Fleetguard part information for LF3604 is listed below.

Part: LF3604
Manufacturer: FLEETGUARD
Part Type: Lube, Spin-On

ADBV: Yes
BPV Setting: 55.2 kPa (8 PSI)
Largest OD: 92.96 mm (3.66 in)
Overall Height: 93.98 mm (3.7 in)
Thread Size: 3/4-16 UNF-2B

Additional Information:
CHRYSLER 5281090"

Too bad you can't run a longer filter as when I enter the 5.4 inch long and same thread size FL-1A it gives me standard and synthetic media versions. The one I am running on my truck (LF697) is a monster 7 inch long filter, but standard media. BTW, ADBV is anti drain back valve and BPV is by pass valve.
