Stepping out of retirement. Starting a new job May 11th. Don't know what I am going to do, but my wife does and talked to my supervisor yesterday. She said I will enjoy my new position. I will work shift work. 12 hour days. I only work seven out of 14 days. Still don't know the shifts either. I don't ask many questions. I will find out when I get there. I interviewed for the company last June and had to complete my background check and that took until April. Should be fun. They gave me 15k more than I asked for. Not bad. I told them they could of had me cheap, but my boss wanted me to make as much as the others who worked in the section so I would not feel bad.

Nice to see someone like you going back to work. Nothing beats experience in the workplace. Sad that a lot of companies want to get rid of older workers, to get the cheap entry level folks. I think a lot of them are shooting themselves in the foot with that line of thinking.

Thanks, I did not think there was much age discrimination until I started looking for another career. I talked to the FBI and had the qualifications but the told me I was too old. Many places on Monster asked me how long I was going to work before I wanted to retire again. I told them what did that matter, I could do many things that a recent college grad could do right away.

Oldman,

You are giving old lazy retirees like me a bad name going back to work.

Congratulations on your new job, and don't be a stranger on the Board.

Enjoy your 2'nd career.

Thanks Vetteman, I have been busy. Our youngest daughter just had a baby, Maya Grace, 24 Feb. And she just moved to MD from Oakland CA. Her husband is going to Iraq for reserve duty next week. Our daughter moved upstairs and we moved downstairs. Our oldest daughter is due May 14th with a boy and she is staying put. We are going to be happy and busy. Thanks about the job, the money will come in handy.

Yea, congrats. I retired a little over 4 years ago. I bumbed around for a while. My "career path" is now "Greenhouse Worker" Both my wife and I work there about 4 hours a day. I'd like to say it pays the bills..but it doesn't.

I get the urge to back to work fulltime but then I come to my senses

I might I add - according to most people - I look young for my age (less than 40!) - and I am in great shape - it's just they want someone "younger".....
