Going about collecting the sample for UOA

A newbie question for you all: Can one collect the used oil analysis sample from the oil filter? Here's the deal; am running Rotella synthetic 5W40 in a 1994 Powerstroke. Am stretching the change interval out some and have a Blackstone kit in the shop. Have been swapping out the oil filter (Motorcraft) at 4000 miles and full change at 8K. Was thinking of just pulling sample from center section of filter when I change it out tonight. what say you?! Thanks in advance! Tom
