Hi all...I've found little if any info on used oil analysis on Phillips 66. As a loyal P66 user I thought I'd start the process of doing used oil analysis on 4 grades I have that will go into the following:
--5w30 into my wife's '04 Corolla with 10k miles
--10w30 into my '93 Caprice with 200k miles
--15w40 HD-II into my ma-in-law's '96 Ford van (15 passenger)
--and 20w50 "Racing" into my '65 Corvair with 113k miles

Since I'm a relative newby, I've never done a used oil analysis and have some "?":
--What OIC should I take a sample? My goal is to get to 5k OIC, whether it's using P66 or possibly going synthetic...whatever gets me there!
--Am I dreaming that a dino can get to 5k and still be worth anything?
--I ordered a kit from Blackstone that I should get in a couple weeks. I might be changing the Corolla before then. I thought I'd do a used oil analysis on the 5w30 Valvoline DuraBlend the dealer put in at 5k. How much of a sample should I take (if I don't have the kit) and is it OK to put it in any clean container until I get the kit?

The van is heading to Connecticut this week from Indiana, so it should get about 2k worth of use after I change the oil Wednesday night.

Also, are there any tidbits I should now about doing used oil analysis? Thanks in advance!

Looking forward to seeing the "Hydroclear" used oil analysis (it is Conoco/Phillips, isn't it?)

As to the how-to of UOA, do a search and read some of the older threads for info. Bob Winters -- the Man -- had an excellent thread on the history of; and there are others besides.

I bought my sample gun at the local Cummins dealer, bought my sample kits from Blackstone (and have Terry of DYSON ANALYSIS do the readings); and use Bob's recommendation of cheap aquarium air hose to fit down into engine. I keep gun clean with mineral spirits, thorough rinsing; using new hose each time.
