Since I have access to many computer resources and in particular exact models of computers, I can objectively and definitively say there is a VERY noticeable difference between W7 and W8. From boot time, to program load time, to calculation time--W8 is faster hands down. W8 is not for everyone and I do not like the metro interface either (unless the machine is touch screen), but with Start8, W8 is the fastest version of W7 you will ever use.
Like I said, I had them on very different hardware, so it was hard to tell. Some of it is going to have to do with your system specs too, as my Win 8 laptop took forever to boot. But either way, the OP is going to have a very fast computer with the specs he got!
