Because you can, in many, many engines. Self educate my friend. Hopefully this wont be as embarrassing as your chinese buick thread.

The only reason US models spec 0w-20 or 5w-20 is CAFE regulations

Most of these models can use 5w30 with as good or better protection. Of course during the warranty period I would use what the manufacturer specifies in the USA, after that do what you want.

Actually the Buick thread went smashingly well.

Worries about Chinese made junk were confirmed even by Lexus execs. Done.

Yet another mind numbing thread on thick vs. thin, along with all the same comments about "protection" and CAFE.

Thank you very much for starting this.

YOu betcha! Welcome to bitog. and get back to your TPS reports!

Realistically, you could use anything from 0-20 to 20-50 and get through the warranty period and well beyond.

Actually, I did. To inform the new members coming here each day and wondering about it. to show them an actual factory manual page. No more , no less.

Actually, it's more about how many asinine ways that you can perpetuate these thick vs. thin threads. No more, No less. If it's not an Ow-16 thread saying "that's tooooo thin, what y'all think?", it's a Russian owner's manual. Next we'll have one where someone's telling me that 10w-60 racing oil makes a good high colonic. Nothin' more, nothin less.

A good high colonic... That sounds vaguely Russian too ...

I do think we ought to know about manuals and their designations outside the USA. Things here are slanted and skewed. I suppose they are there too? But maybe if we average them all out (?), we'll arrive at something like consensus, if not the truth ...
