GMC Terrain that bad?

Well wife wants a newer car, I am cheap, looking for a good deal.

I found a nice 2010 GMC Terrain V6 with around 55000 miles on it, very clean, good price too, around $8000
However the reviews are not good, never see anything like that

Of the options you’ve considered thus far, I’d pick the Impala hands down. Honestly any 2012+ Impala with the LFX will be a fine choice as long as it’s got a decent oil change history. Get some snow tires and your wife
The 4cyl in the 2010 Terrains weren’t the best - the 3.0 was a decent engine but they had timing chain stretch issues.

The Kia is a rolling disaster with the Theta II.

Look for a non rusty Honda CRV the same year or so as the one you posted about. Try for lowest miles and carfax it, no crashed junkers.
Gm is all junk nowadays too bad, was always Chevrolet here.

It's not just about the purchase price, it's also about the low cost of ownership and high resale value if you have a "not so good one" or you just don't like it. Sell it!

Whoa, there’s some wild ideas for cars on here :ROFLMAO:

Not trying to be a hater but a GMC Terrain, Kia Sportage, and Chevy Impala are probably some of the worst cars ever made.

If one really does want reliability at least start with Honda, Toyota, Acura, Lexus, Subaru, etc.

If you can’t find anything, maybe a Mitsubishi Outlander or similar.

If 16yrs old is newer, good for you!

I can't comment on that specific ancient model, but I do know the 2018-2023's with the 1.5T and 9AT tend to have transmission problems. I would avoid those.

My Sister-in-Law and her Son-in-Law both had that generation GMC Terrain. Almost identical. She had nothing but electrical issues with hers 2.4L 4cyl and he had timing chain problems with his 3.0L V6. Cost him $3000 for a new chain, out of warranty. They're known for these problems along with oil burning. If you do buy the Terrain, keep us posted on the reliability of it over the coming months/years. Who know, this could be the best car you've ever owned!

There is a reason that Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Subaru are the most recommended. They just keep the edge. And for sure, the gap has closed as all auto makers have gotten much better than they were 20-30 years ago. At one time, especially in the later '80s-early 2000s, it was about Honda & Toyota being way out front.

And many folks say today that they(Honda & Toyota) are not what they used to be in terms of reliability. But they're still at the top of the heap with the occasional brand moving up........and then dropping back down the next year. Those 4 brands, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Subaru just keep hanging on to the upper reliability list just that little bit better than the others.

Every car maker is having their own issues with vehicle today especially with interior electrics & automatic transmissions. Also, trying to meet EPA emissions, fuel economy & crash standards/accident avoidance is tough job

I know, trying to make the wife happy and not spend a fortune at the same time
In addition I told my wife that SUV are not bigger than a sedan, they just taller but she does not listen
I asked like 5 times for the the car fax so far nothing, it may be a red flag

At what mileage did he start to have problems with the timing chain ?
