+1
Put equivalent drivers in both cars and put them on a real track instead of a drag strip.

You guys and your what ifs, re-read my post. The Porsche in question decides he wants to go drag racing, loses, end of story. The GTO didn't go out to the twisties, but the owner of the Porchse did go to the 1/4 mile strip. Let's all make excuses about what will happen on a "real" track.
Give me a break.

You seem to be confused. The Porsche didn't decide to go drag racing, it's driver did.

You seem confused as to what a real track is. Either way said CAR and DRIVER were at the drag strip and got beat. End of story. Chances are based on real time 1/4 mile times for the Porchse VS what the GTO ran, the GTO still would have won.

Good for a laugh. I agree, the Porsche shouldn't have been there at all. Kinda like me picking a fight with that Suh guy from Nebraska.

Now for some smart-aleck retorts:

Twisty driving just takes sticky tires and suspension, dragging takes an ENGINE and engines are way more interesting and fun than tires and suspension.

If you want to do BOTH kinds of driving, get a Viper.

:-p

How about slamming both into a wall and watching that tin can split in millions of pieces.

Not sure of cars difference, but seems like a bad driver with less aggressive start in the Porsche. The GTO is a throw away car that abusing/hard start it at the drag strip is meaningless. Apparently my wifes wagon(2005 Legacy turbo) manages 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, however you need to rev the car to 4000 RPM and drop the clutch shocking the AWD drivetrain.

Drivers make a lot of difference at drag strip. I would conclude nothing out of this.

Personally I don't like Porsche's and GTO looks like an overgrown Cavalier to me which lead to its miserable failure in US market.

Really explain to me how a LS2 with a 4L60E or T-56 is throw away.
What is your basis? Seriously that may be the stupidest comment I have seen on this
board.

ls1mike,

If that is the stupidest comment you have read on this board, you haven't read much.

$22,000 is throw away in the racing world. Of course, $440k may be deemed ill-spent.

The price point of the car especially used makes it throw away and great for drag. The engine/transmission are a great combination in an relatively inexpensive car.

Sadly most cars are throw away now, basically consumable goods.

I doubt there's any envy coming from the CGT owner. He gets to drive his $400k car home and park it next to his $350k Ferrari in his $4 million home. The GTO owner gets his 5 seconds of glory and that's about it.

CGT is one of my favorite cars. Yellows like in the vid are pretty rare. He had a bad launch, probably too worried about the $8k clutch

You got that right^^^, those German parts will kill ya.

The only thing that vid proves is my reason for focusing on trap speed instead of ET when comparing runs.

The P driver was asleep!

Um, the new goat is quite competant in your 'twisties', I assure you (I've seen properly set up ones attack road courses with aplomb). Despite their weight, and small tire sizes, they DO have a very good suspension design.

Now, should it be able to compete with an ultra exotic, high buck, sports car monster??
I would think not, but that does not mean it has to "leave the track" like a pure drag race car (as long as it does not have a pure drag race wheel/tire set up installed).
