GM says bankruptcy excuses it from Impala repairs

Probably not a wise business decision.
They fixed the cop cars since not to have done so would have locked them out of a large market for years.
Fixing the cop cars also weakens their legal position with respect to their obligation to fix every other Impala.
It is unwise for "New GM" to neglect those owners already in the tent, since if they are kept happy they are likely to buy another GM product.
Make them angry with some technical legal argument as to which entity actually made their car, and they won't likely be back.
What if NHTSA ordered a recall for a pre-bankruptcy GM product?
Would New GM try to ascert the same defense?

This is what happens when our government interferes and meddles with business, and inserts itself in places where it never should be.

When you look at what GM's advertising budget must be versus the costs of doing these repairs, this just seems like a really poor decision. 2 Super Bowl ads would probably pay for this! The ill will this will create is going to cost a lot more.

Amen to that comment!

You know...GM should've realized in order to stay on board the company would be a 'servant' of the government and it's citizens here. It's still thinking of itself as a big business with mighty authority: Not really.

Wow. You would have thought they could come up with a better excuse than that. For better or for worse, most people will probably never hear about this unless it makes the nightly news or the cover of USA Today.

+1000; our 2007 Impala has the rear alignment problems, it's needed head gaskets, water crossover gaskets, water pump, a new steering shaft all with less than 50,000 miles.

We gave GM 1 more chance; NEVER AGAIN.

Typical GM, build a sub-par product, then when it fails, tell the customer to "get lost".

The only domestic manufacturer I would seriously consider is Ford. Chrysler will need a few more years to achieve a reliability record with their new products and GM, well their history speaks for itself.

Same here, this is a sure way to go bankrupt again. Anyone who buys a GM and falls for the Buy American, shame on them. So does that mean any old GM car has no warranty whatsoever??

No real news here - the whole point of bankruptcy is to get rid of your old liabilities.

And the coporate reaction to an individual customers complaint, as opposed to the corporate reaction to a LAWSUIT SEEKING CLASS ACTON CERTIFICATION, is probably quite a bit different.

They just replaced a pulley and belt for me on my Motors Liquidation (or whatever the old company is now) manufactured car, no questions asked, and had the car washed for me when I picked it up.

The government interference in the ordinary bankruptcy procedure sucked and was crooked, we all get it, but it's over and done. Time to put down the Haterade and move on with life.

THIS IS ONE STUPID DECISION ON THE PART OF GM!!!!!!!

Ever hear of something coming back to bite you in the [censored] later on.

Note to the NEW GM: If you screw these customers they will never buy and car from you again and they will tell EVERYONE THEY KNOW NOT TO BUY YOUR PRODUCTS EITHER!!!!!

It's gunna cost them dearly in the long term.

Oops. I forgot that US business doesn't care about the long term just the next quick buck for the sleazy brass hat executives and the shareholders.

Are these '07-'08 Impalas not past the warranty period they were sold under in the first place? Isn't that what the article said that it the new GM was only limited to terms of the original warranty? I guess by some here's logic GM's bankruptcy should've only applied to not honoring pensions. I personally think they should've fixed the cars and handle issues like this on a case by case basis. I can see Bitog is the same GM and UAW bashing place it always been.

The warranty on our 07 Impala expires in December; that's beside the point. Ours, and many other people's, were under warranty when we tried getting the alignment issues fixed like they did for police cars and we were told it was on our dime. There's even been a few very serious wrecks from tire blowouts because of this problem. What's it gonna take? A fatality and a recall for gubment motors to fix the problem?

And why do people call it bashing when someone has a legitimate problem and complaint about poor customer service with a company? I'm not bashing, I'm stating the facts and I'm unhappy with getting shafted by [censored] poor build quality cars and crummy customer support.

Design is old gm not new gm. I agree they should fix it but Im not going to get mad because other mfrs pull the same kind of bull. Ou should hear some of the excuses computer companies give for not repairing a product. It makes some of this look like gm is the most honest and generous company out there .

While I don't agree with GM's Decision, I do think they should do fix the cars, but it is part of business to fight a class action law suit.
Go to google and type in Ford, Toyota, Honda etc fights class action law suit or appeals class action law suit. There are tons of pages of stuff they have tried to fight or appeal, oil sludge, fires the list goes on for alot of car companies.
I could come on here and bash Ford, Honda and VW all day long when they screw up because everything I ever owned made by them was issues or in the case of my Jetta was just plain [censored] compared to stuff I am driving now. I don't because ones person's experience does not make the rest of the stuff bad.

We get it Drew your parents Impala sucks. My paretns 07 has 120,000 miles on it, brakes, tires and a steering shaft. Sorry your parents got a bad one. My parents got their Impala after their Taurus the [censored] the engine due to a headgasket failure at 76,000 miles. Does it make the Taurus [censored]. Absolutely not. Did my parents have bad luck or maybe just get a bad one? Probably.

This is just another thread for the typical GM bashers to come out and slam it to them. Won't stop me from buying their product.
Bash away.

Looks like the tax payers are going to pick up the tab for GM and Chrysler again.

Mo' Bailout

The link above is from Obama's 2009 promise that the gubbermint would be honoring warranties. Wonder why people still can't get their cars repaired?

The wife drives a Chrysler now but it'll be the last one we ever buy and I got fed up with GM's products years ago. Looks like Ford gets our business from now on.

Too bad the people who financed those vehicles through GM and still have loans still have to pay. Funny how that works isn't it?
