It appears that Glock is phasing out most all models of their pistols. This is surprising to say the very least. Lenny MaGill is one of the biggest Glock guys in the country. And he has built a very successful business around the brand.

Word is "around the net" that one of the many reasons is they want to discontinue anything that will accept a full auto switch. I'm sure there is politics involved in this somewhere. Recently Kalifornia has banned most all of them.

Why is GLOCK discontinuing so many models?
In order to focus on the products that will drive future innovation and growth, we are making a strategic decision to reduce our current commercial portfolio. This streamlined approach allows us to concentrate on continuing to deliver the highest-quality and most relevant solutions for the market.

What does this mean for me as a customer?
You’ll still have access to the most popular GLOCK models you know and love—just with a more focused selection.

Will discontinued models still be supported?
Yes! Just like we do with previous generations. We will continue to service discontinued models.

Do these portfolio changes affect law enforcement agencies?
GLOCK remains fully committed to supporting the varying needs of our law enforcement partners. While IOP programs may be affected, GLOCK is prepared to work closely with LE partners to make sure officer and agency needs are met. For more questions, contact your LE District Manager.

Saw that yesterday.

With all the Glock clones out there, the new models will be new, not able to be copied. Glocks are excellent pistols, and I cannot think of anything that needs addressing in all the models listed.

Ease of modification is a dangerous slope to go down for sure.

I totally agree. This whole thing doesn't stack on its own merit. Glock sells all the pistols they can make. And they've done so for decades..... And done it with off the chart profits. Why change a successful formula?

We all saw what happened with, "New Coke". Even the gen 5 guns were not really necessary, and didn't sell all that well. This in spite of the lack of finger grooves that so many whined about.

Something either legal, political, or all of the above is driving this.

There’s a bit of missing info in the headline. They are replacing all those models with newer ones that aren’t capable of accepting a full auto switch.

I predict clever Chinese engineers will design a new switch and be selling them on Temu within six months LOL.

Well, seems a combination of what they said - and folks here figured out …
certainly will create focus areas - thinking half of them are 9mm already …

This is a catastrophically stupid move by Glock, akin to proactively castrating all baby boys because a few of them "might" end up as serial assaulters of women.

I remember thinking when all the airport security went up after 9/11 that "OK, so blowing up the terminal is less tragic than blowing it up 200y closer to the plane? Such is the foolishness of moving the goalposts and pretending you've changed the nature of things.

@Hohn on the other side of the coin, the older Glock design patents have expired and the design is in public domain. Many companies are making exact copies of Glock's expired designs. Why would Glock want to continue to manufacture designs they now have to compete with the likes of Ruger? I think it's a pretty smart move by Glock. Manufacture much higher margin products, instead of making a nickel or a dime competing with every knock-off out there.

With all the clones out there I don’t see this really changing much for the consumer. The Glock gen 3 is now basically an open source platform.

It’s a bold move, though, from a traditionally incredibly conservative, careful company. A lot is riding on what they come out with. Will they misstep or innovate?

I could see them attempt to move to a chassis system akin to the RXM. That’s why they lost out to the accursed P320 in the MHS trials.

Pure speculation here but I wonder if they’ve cooked up a viable option for Uncle Sam…

Sucks for the Glock aficionado for sure. My current selection are all I want/need, and I have plenty of parts. Better buy 'em up while you can. Honestly, I like my S&Ws better anyway 😁.

I'm much the same. I have a total of 7 of them in both 9 MM as well as .45 ACP. All of them are Gen 3's. Which seem to be the most popular of the bunch. So I'm set with Glocks until they put me in a box or oven.

Anyone know how significant the changes will be with the new V range? Assuming the changes are fairly minor, this gives Glock an opportunity to update their range, and they will sell millions of guns to people wanting the latest and greatest.

But when GM does that - the Howler Monkeys clear leaves from trees 😷

Glock is the original. And to a lot of people that means something. They want the, "original". Much like Colt with the 1911. They even capitalized on that in their advertising by saying, "If it's not a Colt, it's just a copy".

There are too many manufacturers of the 1911 around the world to even count. Yet Colt sells every single one they make. In spite of being one of the most poorly run corporations in the firearms business.
