Glare on instrument cluster

I drive a 2009 Ford Taurus Limited. When the sun is overhead the instrument cluster clear plastic reflects the black part of the cluster and is unreadable. I owned a 2008 Taurus and it did not have this problem.

Is there any type of spray on treatment that I can apply to the clear part to make it non reflective?

Why does it look hazy? Or is that just the focus?

I would be worried that the clear plastic was wrongly polished at some point and the anti reflective coating (if one existed) was rubbed off.

That is pretty much the way it looks when the sun shines at a certain angle. I bought it used, so someone may have polished the coating away.

Tint your windows.

Put some black felt over the surface that is reflecting.

Use velcro to keep it in place.

The clear plastic reflects whatever is on the black part of the cluster below.

What looks wrong about it? I'm not aware of anything that clear plastics have to avoid that. Multiple cars across all different makes and models suffer from this problem. It's caused primarily by the long sweep of the windshield as well as a poorly designed cowl for the instrument cluster that lets sunlight hit the plastics.

I think the only solutions would be:
1. Look for something someone may sell that you put over the actual clear plastics like they sell for motorcycles?
2. Look for something that would sit on the dash and not reflect light where the plastic that's already there, currently does. I'm not aware of anything that would do that. Even shining a light on a matte surface would still reflect. You'd need something like vantablack.

Are you using a glossy spray for your interior like ArmourAll?

If so, get away from that and find a matte finish detail spray for your interior surfaces. There are several out there.

Thanks for the better pics. I've driven rental cars that had this issue and I don't think you have any non-drastic options. Someone suggested window tint which may help.

Seems Fords are good for this kind of design flaw. We rented a Ford Escape that had a horrible reflection of the dash on the windshield. It was so distracting that I thought it was dangerous.

Waaaii. Is this really a problem? How often are you driving with the sun directly over head? And you should be glancing at the dash, not focusing on the glare. I can see everything fine.

You can get a 2007 tundra with far recessed gauges and always backlit to remedy this if needed. Mine don't glare.
