then do not use esters LOL no really when first brought out in the ? 80's there where problems with water that got into the gear box "exstracting" the borate some what and upon dry off in the seal face area the buildup caused seal wear and leaks BUT think that had been improved as of late and now the OLOA borate can take a few % of water tho I still think it is best used in Dry areas.

That's what I said Bruce. If you're going to formulate a good full synthetic gear oil with KB's, then go with POE's.

Diiso-type adipates don't play well with KB's and you need to do testing with the diesters to see how ell they play with other additives.
 
Yeah I have bottles of all kinds of ester/VII/FM's in various states of floating glop to sticky glop to settled glop.
