Quick read on the J2360 lubes versus GL-5 from my regular SAE email notices ...

However, as you first might get the impression that the J2360 is going to drive a lot of "new" lubes into the market, once you search the big brand names, they are already on the "approved" list seen here (both conventional and synthetic lubes):

This standard is probably a much better means of testing and validating gear lubes, but apparently the market is already flush with many dinos and syns that already meet this standard. Many of the big brand names are already on there; Bran Penn, BP, Castrol, Ashland/Valvoline, Shell, Mobil, Petro-Canada, Pennzoil, etc, etc. Almost 250 choices on the list, with a good selection of vis options.
