SAE J2360

According to sae.org https://www.sae.org/standards/content/j2360_201204/

The gear lubricants covered by this standard exceed American Petroleum Institute (API) Service Classification API GL-5 and are intended for hypoid type, automotive gear units, operating under conditions of high-speed/shock load and low-speed/high-torque. These lubricants may be appropriate for other gear applications where the position of the shafts relative to each other and the type of gear flank contact involve a large percentage of sliding contact. Such applications typically require extreme pressure (EP) additives to prevent the adhesion and subsequent tearing away of material from the loaded gear flanks. These lubricants are not appropriate for the lubrication of worm gears.

A list of oils that meet these specs are here https://cdn.p-r-i.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/31173449/LRI-QPL-10-31-17-online.xls

Valvoline Synpower 75w90 is on this list.. website and bottle both list SAE J2360

Walmart Supertech 75w90 is NOT on this list, however.. Walmart.com states "Recommended where API GL-5 and MT-1, MACK GO-J, SAE J2360 and MIL-PRF-2105E (PG-2) are specified" No wording on the bottle about SAE J2360 nor MACK etc.

Mobil 1 75w90 is not on the list, nor does website say it meets SAE J2360

Harvest King 80w90 Gear Oil- is not on the list nor on rural king website..however the bottle reads "Fully formulated for applications recommended where SAE J2360 and Mack GO-J are specified"

Is this spec worth having? It is elusive and confusing. Even finding the oils that meet the spec requires that you have a program that can download a spreadsheet.

If i wanted/needed this spec Valvoline Synpower would be the only one that i could put my hands on at a brick and mortar... or i could go with Harvest King that isnt on the list, but says i can use it on the bottle, or i could go to walmart.com and read the information about Supertech 75w90, but not find it on the bottle.

This article https://www.fleetequipmentmag.com/heavy-duty-truckgear-oil-specification-sae-j2360/

Starts off with "The king of gear oil specifications: SAE J2360".... "The only way to know with certainty that a gear oil meets the strictest of quality standards, and can provide protection in today's axles, is to ensure that it is SAE J2360 approved"

If this is the king of specifications... perhaps Synpower 75w90 is The King of Gear Oils??? (available at brick and mortars).
