Trying to organize my oil stash to use up older stuff, but can't get a date code off the Mobil bottles. It looks like my M1 0w-30 SL GF-3 is the oldest oil that I want to use. How old is it? 2003 at the latest is my guess. I gotta use this stuff up in order. Thanks.

Its on the bottom of the older M1 bottles.

I just don't have a UV light.

I see GF-3 and SL on that 0w-40 in the middle of 2004. Still, is it about time that I should use it up?

Ok, my quest yielded a burned-out incandesent blacklight bulb. I had to shine a strong flashlight through it in the dark to read the date code on the bottle. (a true BitOGer moment) It readabout the same as yours, mid-04. I wondered if it was older, even '03. I guess I have to use it up now. I have 2 years worth, 6 changes, and it's be 5 years old as it's used.

Trimming down the stash is important. I did not realize the 5w30 Havoline Semi-Synth I bought last summer was coded '03, at least the 10w-30 is '06. All the PP I have can wait, mostly '07. I have some SynPower and Havoline Synth from '06 too. Oh well, I'll have to be generous giving it out. Most apps will get overkill oil. GC in an old 4cyl VW non-turbo? Why not?

I tend to agree that it will last. At least date-decoding brings some badly needed structure to the oil selection process. On the other end, guys w/o a stash standing in the oil asle at the store and can't decide which to buy. Mobil 1 0w-30 is my pet oil for Hondas. I can't keep it AND use it, so... I won't miss it so much, as PP has replaced it as a quality otc product. (price is right too)

I have been doing the same for almost a year now. out of my 124 qt stash, 36 quarts of it is SL oil. which will probably take almost two years to use it up.
