Getting rid of an earworm - you can google all the remedies. Bah.....no good.

Cure: This may take an hour or so, hopefully much less. You Tube all the bad covers by rotten amateurs. Don't watch any official or good ones. Only the really really bad ones. If you can't sort them yourself, bribe someone else to line up 5-10+ bad ones. It goes without saying they will be easy to find.

Tip of the day.

Of course. Especially for musicians. ~30% of people report their earworms are quite pleasant songs.

I had to google this one. I was thinking it was a parasite of some kind.

Never heard of an actual name for it till now. I guess my dad had a problem with "bicycle built for two" for many years.

I had an earworm a year or more ago. My standard cure for them is to play the tune that is stuck in my head over and over until I OD (over dose) on it--that usually gets them cured. The last one I had was very, very serious because I was stuck on an entire opera (La Gioconda) the best parts of which I've known for over 40 years. The real problem was that many parts of it kept coming up, and since it's about 3 hours long with lots of beautiful "tunes" it sure was very distracting! I still love it and listen to most all of it frequently but now without the worm! How is that for a near fatal earworm?

Now I get it...was picturing that scene from "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" where the creepy little alien insect crawls into Chekov's ear and burrows into his brain...

Take them out >>>

This.

Or the altenative was earwigs and the OP just had a typo.

I have heard that you tend to pick up earworms from other people humming them in the frozen food aisle at the grocery store.

The cure - go back to the frozen food aisle at the grocry store and pass them on to someone else.

When someone tells me they have a song stuck in their head that they can't remove, I start singing this

Quote:

Here's the story of a lovely lady
Who was bringing up three very lovely girls.
All of them had hair of gold, like their mother,
The youngest one in curls.

Here's the store, of a man named Brady,
Who was busy with three boys of his own,
They were four men, living all together,
Yet they were all alone.

Till the one day when the lady met this fellow
And they knew it was much more than a hunch,
That this group would somehow form a family.
That's the way we all became the Brady Bunch.
The Brady Bunch,

That's the way we all became the Brady Bunch.
The Brady Bunch.

and it usually works.

Earworms can have serious implications in workplace OH&S.

One day I was chatting to a bloke at work over the cubicle fence when a beetroot red Scottsman stormed into his cubicle, spun his chair around, and got into his face, pointing and prodding, and yelling, spittle flying about "you do it all the f'n time, and I'm sick of it."

Bloke backed his chair across the cubicle, being chased down by Scottsman, look of shock and awe on his face...he was clueless.

Scottsman wandered off muttering something about harrassment, and lucky he didn't kill him etc.

Mate called for remediation session just to work out what was going on.

Turned out that he'd been walking up the corridor singing Amy Winehouse "wanna make me go to rehab, but I said no, no, no", which had been stuck in his head for a solid fortnight (we all bore witness to that), and Scottsman took that as harrassment.

I get stuck if I feel I have to remember ALL the words to a song.
This can keep me awake most of the night.

I recently got hung-up On Richard Thopson's 1952 Vincent, I could not get the last verse!
In the end, I went to YouTube at 3 in the morning.
But before going back to bed I played Suzanne Vega's Tom's Diner (that I had never heard before)
Now, for the last 2 weeks, I've had that stuck in my head :-(
Do do do-do, do do do-do, do do do-do do do do-do..........

Now that's a good idea! If you did it in front of a mirror, then all thoughts other than "Man do I look silly like this!" will vanish from your head!
