Get with the times: You're driving all wrong

I often drive with one hand down low and away from the air bag unless I'm maneuvering, then I seem to naturally steer at 9 and 3.

It should also be angled towards your chest not face and you shouldn't be too close.

I saw an old man in a Lexus LS whose chest was literally inches away from the steering wheel. Wish I had been able to take a pic, it was unreal.

I know that you should drive that way, but to be honest I usually drive with one hand at the top. Hopefully when the time comes that an airbag deploys I'll get my hands away or else I'll be knocking myself out.

If you cross your hands over the center of the steering wheel and the bag goes off, you will eat you arm.

I usually hold the wheel at the bottom of the bottom corners, next to the spokes, fingers through the inside. Otherwise I hold it at 9 and 3.

I vary positions all over But 10 and 2 is what I learned.

In the Pontiac: ten and two in town; one hand on each top spoke for backroads or highways; left hand on lower spoke for a long highway cruise. In the cars with power steering: usually left hand at eleven; sometimes right hand at twelve instead; occasionally nine and three.

Left hand at 12. Figure if Im ever in an accident where the airbags deploy, a Citizen watch face tattooed on my forehead will be the least of my problems.

My little old Aunt drives with the seat all the way forward and a pillow between her back and the seat. Her stomach touches the wheel almost! Needless to say we pray she never rear ends another car and the airbag goes off...

Too fatiguing to keep the hand at the top. And Im pretty tall with long arms and legs.

Im usually holding at the bottom.

It depends on the speed and the risk. 80+ mph I use both hands at 9 and 3. Highway speeds below that is one hand at 6. On city streets, it's again 9 and 3.
