Haha, I'm curious how the Hyundai would feel at 130mph for an hour or so, if it could reach that speed. Being a BMW fan glad to see they did pretty well, MBZ has really gone down hill in satisfcation but never really cared for their cars except the diesels so that's ok. Porsche's are great cars and seem to show it from both lists.

...but are apparently thrilled with the Mitsubishis!

There is a degree of counter-intuitiveness built into the lists, reverse the order and see how strongly they correlate. High expectations of the Mercedes after paying top-dollar lead to the inevitable let-downs. Remember, some dorkus being "satisfied" with their car does not equate to a better car. People are "happy" working at McDonald's and Wal*Mart...but not because their last job was posh. Perhaps the Mercedes buyer has higher expectations due to a higher level of experience with autos than...say a new Hundai buyer. Interesting SURVEY, but meaningless due to the huge variations of the respondent's qualifications. 9/10 Bushmen of the Kalahari say Rover is the best vehicle...that they have experience with.

So, are perceptions wrong or are the surveys?

The original poster seems to have no insight at all, other than to see Hundai higher on a list than Audi.

imo, NEITHER list is anything to sink your teeth into, both are biased and opinionated. Scoring well on both is the only meaningfull event.

Let's see how their study correlates with the above survey. My guess is that if you throw out the "wildcards" there will be some sense made of the mater.

Dudes, who cares. No car company is paying for my endorsement. I am watching for my own bottomline rather than being 'loyal' to a company that is nothing but a supplier to me.

I like my Camry but if Toyota turns out a crap Camry in 07 I will be the first one to bash them.

If a company thinks they have unconditionally loyal customers they will keep turning out crap.

Suzukis(sans the Verona, Forenzas & Renos...are rebadged Daewoos for the US market; also called Chevys in other countries)are actually one of the best selling car brands in Japan.

Suzuki USA plans to sell this "genuine" Suzuki as a Yaris rival within two years.

Suzukis outlast almost anything out here in India, picture a small 800cc engine 3 cylinder super sub compact hatch carrying well over its rated load and lasting 200,000 miles as well. Also the Suzuki Samurai 4WD which is sold as Gypsy here does duty well beyond its original design, they do make reliable no frills and cheap transportation.

Real information from CR? Joke. Their pro Japan bias based on 20 year old data, will skew their subscribers attitudes.

It also takes more real engineering to produce a decent cheap car, than an expensive high end one.

THE LOSING LUSTER: A few years ago, no one questioned German Automobile quality. But these days, a Hyundai is a better bet than a Volkswagen.

Jobs and cars are two different subjects, so that is an irrevelant statement.

I have never met anybody who is happy with there job at Walmart or Mcdonalds.

BTW, are you saying that Korean car owners are poor? My parents live in a pretty wealthy neighborhood and i see a couple of Hyundai Azera's, XG's and a few sonatas...Also,, a few rich kids driving in New Tiburons and Elantra GT's.

I've broken two SJ4 without any effort. One of them died halfway down a fairly steep hill, the other one expired silently after only two days of driving on a dirt road that a Yugo could have handled. No more Suzuki for me!

Subaru tops the quality survey here every year. After 25 'other' vehicles I have a Sube (Outback). Now I know what a quality vehicle and even more importantly a quality vendor/service team is. Free clutch and slave cylinder replacement 6 and 9 months after the warranty expired. Lot's of luck if you think anybody else will do that!
