German Castrol Still Available - USA ?

Wrong. It had everything to do with country of origin.
The original "German" Castrol Syntec 0w30 was made in Germany and imported to the US.
There were versions of the Castrol Syntec 0w30 made in the US and Germany at the same time.
The one made in the US was not as good as the one made in Germany (German made was full PAO, US was not).
Original German had a green tint to it as well, but went to an amber color in later production.
Don't forget the smell......
It did not smell like the typical motor oil...

Almost sweet....

I recall that some of us sent donations to have this oil deeply analyzed to find what it was made of. Terry Dyson took this on and came back with this information which we could see. It was posted on a forum for all to see and we who contributed to this got more complete information.

Just look at the Castrol website. The current MSDS says the "classic" 0W-30 A3/B4 is PAO dominant. So is the 0W-40.

Thank you.

Here is a PDS of the same oil from 2022.
Product code: 467680
KV at 100°C: 12.18 cSt
HTHS: 3.5 cP
Noack: 8.3%
Pour point: -60°C/-76°F (I haven't seen such an oil before)
https://msdspds.castrol.com/bpglis/...D50FF12802588DE005BE9D3/$File/bpxe-a9tnq9.pdf

However it says Made in the USA on the bottle. Not sure on what bottles say Made in Belgium and that product code is 467680-BE02.

Thanks gents. Oil discussion on a Saturday night. Legends🔥👏😁

I’m assuming the Edge Euro 5w30 & 5w40 has a descent amount of pao to meet the longer drain interval spec of some of the euro manufacturers.

The Ow30 costs a lot more and hopefully has A LOT of pao.

not a drop in any of them.
how long do you mean? why does it need pao base for long OCI? you can get there with a quality group 3 and good additives.
euro manufactures dont care how you will get there ..

Do you know what % of PAO the two oil formulas have please?? The Euro 0w30 & Euro 5w30?
Thanks

Castrol Euro 5W-30 and 5W-40 don't have PAO and are not any special oils. Also Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 and FS 5W-40.

The special oils with certain amount of PAO are 0W-30 and 0W-40 for both Castrol and Mobil.

That's what I've learnt from this guy @edyvw.

Makes sense. The cheapest price I’ve found is $50 shipped/6 quarts on amazon for 0W Euro. The Euro Ow is A LOT more margin wise than the Euro 5w30 I bought today @walmart.

The Euro 5w30 is very popular apparently as today was the first time I found a jug and I bought the last one.

Interesting. I had to look it up. PAO is hydrogenated Decene homopolymer. Mods, I used a screen shot from Connect Chemicals to get a confirmation on the chemistry of PAO.

I’m gonna order a 6 pack of the 0w30 today & try it in my 2.4l Yota engine soon.
Edit Amazon has the 5 quart Jug of Euro 0w40(no30) for only $27.48. Apparently they sell boatloads of it!

0W30 is up to 50%, 0W40 up to 30%.
5W30&40 are strictly Group III.
Thsnks a lot. Amazon has a plethora of jugs of 0w40 cheap. $27.50! Made in USA like the euro 5w30 i bought. Best price I could find is a special on 0w30 1 x’s 6 quarts for $55 shipped.
Huummm

Your local Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts will have 0W30 on sale, 5qt + filter for $37.
0W30 is better oil than 0W40. Less volatile.
Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40 would be my choice in 40 grade or Mobil 1 0W40.

Called auto zone. They don’t stock euro w30 edge Castrol. Called advance. They have it for $11.99 a quart. They will only do the deal for a jug and they only have jugs of Mobil 1 euro 0w30.

I’m 190% sure the green GC I bought for my e46 years ago was w40 & made in Germany and it was green.

Morel 300v is super green and it’s an ester 4 formula so I’m guessing the GC was partially or largely group 4 ester.

PAO is group 4, Esters are Group V.
Green color is certain additive or dye. Castrol 0W30 is not green for 18-20 yrs. Can’t remember.
300V is racing oil, I would not use it on street unless you are tracking car a lot.
As for AAP, yes. But person working there can override system. That is how I get Castrol 0W30. I just ask them to do it.

I always confuse PAO & Ester grouping & the Roman numeral V. Thanks.

The last time I bought GC was 2008. The last oil change I did with it was 2010. It was green.

Motul 300V seems to be largely misunderstood. Check the YT videos & oil analysis for the 300v 4T in a motorcycle. Superb results for 8500 miles.
I usually drive my car like I’m tracking it😱😂😁. I’d like to try the Mosul 300V’s one day.

$39.99 +’tax. It was suppose to come with a standard Car quest and he upgraded me to a $17.99 K&N.🔥👏👏❤️

Doesn’t say where in Europe the foreign components are made.

I used 300V, I did UOA, etc. UOA cannot tell you what is left behind. UOA is analysis of oil not engine. Racing oils don’t utilize same additives.
Racing oil doesn’t have place in street engines. And it absolutely doesn’t matter how fast you drive on the street. I ran 300V for 5k in strictly street conditions. Excellent UOA. BITOG member also ran 300V sample I have sent him to do deposit test and it was a mess.
And he really didn’t upgrade you on filter.
Car Quest is better stuff from my understanding.
Is that filter for BMW or Lexus?

It was an $8 entry level Caf Quest. They went up to $18 and weren’t offering the other ones I’ve changed tons of customers K&N filters but never run one. This is one of the heaviest oil filters of this size ever. Definitely an upgrade. I have lots of filter for my Lexus IS300. I can sell the K&N.

If I had a wet clutch motorcycle application I wouldn’t hesitate to run the Motul 300v 4T on a daily.
P.S. I’m a pro tech that works on cars that cost as much as a house @ times. I was obviously joking about my spirited driving relative to oil.😂✌️

Thanks dude
