I don't know that Wendt would ever be in consideration for the world's best actor, but he sure carried that role with aplomb. His other acting projects paled in comparison to that iconic role. Not that he was lazy or unemployed; he worked a long time in his profession and was well liked everywhere.

Cheers would not have been the same without him. And that is how I shall remember him. 🍺

One of my few celebrity encounters... We were at Cincinnati Oktoberfest, around 2010-ish, and it was getting late, my wife had to use the porta potties before we left and I went with her. She went in, and I decided I had better go too but they were all occupied. I stood waiting for my wife to come out and the door next to hers opens up and I hear a guy say "Here you go..." and I look over and it was him holding the door. I said hi, I've seen you somewhere before and he smiled and said yea, I thanked him for holding the door and went in, and when I came out my wife was there and I said "Thats Norm!!" as he was walking away. He was apparently there doing a book signing and was getting ready to leave. We followed him back to the tent where he was packing up and my wife got a picture with him. He was cordial, but not overly friendly, apparently he had a new book out and had been there all day, I'm sure he was pretty tired of people at that point.

I will never forget one of his comments in an episode as he was walking into Cheers after what had obviously been a very long day:

“It’s a dog eat dog world out there and I’m wearing Milkbone underwear!”

Thanks for the laughs, Norm.

I saw him on stage in "Art", a wry look at life's endeavors.
While still humorous, it was great to see a familiar actor doing a different role.

edit: Was it not a Ford Grenada which zooms blurrily across the initial shot of Cheers?

Grew up loving that show. It sounds like he was a great guy and accomplished stage actor as well. RIP, Norm.
