Would a HDEO oil be better and let you go longer than the 25hr OCI on this? So far I have 10hrs in it running it on my homes natural gas line. I did its break-in oil change. If I lose power changing oil every 25hrs doesn’t seem ideal. I believe the main reasoning is soot buildup because it uses such a small amount of oil (why couldn’t they just let you out more in). Wondering if HDEO would be better or if none of this matters and I should just grab the cheapest 10w30 on the planet and let it go.

What does it hold ? Something like 35 ounces ?

My WGen has a 457cc Chonda - I run Redline 10W-30. Our power is reliable - so I leave it two years with low hours - but no doubt the PAO/Ester formula could run longer than mentioned

if its a pull start, you want a 0W-something to make cold starts easier. My Honda-powered unit does really good with 0W-40. Weeks and weekends summer or winter it strarts fast and runs long and hard

I use a synthetic oil to meet all possible temperatures to be encountered. I use a name branded synthetic 10w-30.

Yeah you want the "storage" oil to be good for anything, cold starts, super hot, whatever. Agree on the syn 10w30 recommendation.

But you'll also want some "other" oil kicking around for your daily changes. I've generally not had a problem, having plenty of odd quarts of very nice oil left over as being "not enough for a car."

Where did you see 25hour interval?
the owners manual states 1st change at 20hours then every 50? 10w30

Hmmmm they must have changed it. I have the paper manual that came with it still sitting on its lid and it does say 25hr intervals. I’d bought it the month it first came out and that was one thing I always questioned.

It’s an electric start and it works great. Fired it up a couple days before the freezes started hitting Houston. Was surprised the battery and everything held up. It’d been a good while.

Here is a discussion from last year about using a low ash oil when running a generator on natural gas.

There's almost no soot created when natural gas engines run compared to gas or diesel.
Running diesel oil would get you wayyy more detergent than the engine could ever use or need and be would be lacking in anti wear additive.
Synthetic PCMO is a way better choice.

It's a tri fuel so was kinda wondering also what if I use it with regular/premium gas. At my home I have a gas line to run it on but was considering using it for some night fishing on the beach to run lighting as well.
