I mix 10w30 Full Synthetic with HD 30 in mine. In the winter I go ~ 12ozs syn to 8ozs HD. In the summer, I reverse it. I ran a Honda Clone Guardian by Generac and a Wen for almost 2 months after Superstorm Sandy on the cold blend and it's still fine. I experimented with combinations and straight 30 and they all came out somewhat watery when they were changed. The combo seemed to hold up the best. Just MHO.
BTW, the guardian is a 4000-3750, the Wen is a 3500-3000.
The Wen was completely submerged and my neighbor got it running after we dumped all the water out of it. We thought it was a miracle. The generator part grinds a lot on startup, but quiets down after running a few minutes. The Guardian runs just fine. They saw probably 600 hrs each. The Guardian more of a steady draw of the fridge, lights and battery chargers. The Wen was beaten up by power tools and floodlights.
