Hello BITOGers..

I just inherited the said pressure washer from my grandfather amongst other tools.

The B&S pump was clapped out struggling to build pressure.

I got a deal on a pump from Home Depot. It's a 3100psi 3/4 shaft from Home Depot.

Friend says it will fit but I want to know if the lightly used Briggs 3.5 horiz shaft will handle the load of a 3100psi pump?

I installed it today, the portable washer was hopping about violently from the increased load while washing.

Should I turn down the pressure valve lower and leave it?

Funny thing happened as I started the engine, a portion of hose sprung a pinhole and soaked my face w/ high pressure. Apparently the hose was worn or wasn't up to the extra psi?

I set the orig B&S pump aside to be rebuilt eventually. Parts are hard to find.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

Ps I'm mounting it to a nice little Sears vert mount rolling chassis. No hopping washer that way. :-)

I would have bought a name brand pump online. (AR, CAT, Comet). Its probably pretty well matched per the shaft size. More HP means a larger shaft size.

Funny how its a horz. shaft pump but its shown vertical.

I recently bought a pressure washer on craigslist for $30. I pretty much knew it was junk but I wanted to learn more about pumps, so it was my experiment. It was a 2100/ 2.2 gallon but it has a 5 hp engine on it. I got the engine running and the pump would run but had a crack in it so it was junk. If you go on Ebay, you can buy just about any pump design you want for $70 shipped. I put a 2800/2.4 gallon on it and it works Great. I think 3.5 is a little too small to run anything over 2500. Mine has a 7/8 shaft.
