I had a Gear Reduction Starter installed today on my small block chevy because my old Delco-Remi barely started once the engine was hot.
The install went smooth, started the car up and put it in reverse, and the car made a screeching sound, put in the shims and it did the same thing again. Then we took the nose of the starter off and put in a washer that came with the starter.
The car started up fine and there was no noise when I put it through the gears. When I start the car you can immediately notice it is a gear reduction starter, it makes and incredible whooom noise. I got this starter from D&B Electrical, it cost about $77.00 plus $12.00 shipping. If I had gotten this starter from Summit it would have been $149.00 plus shipping.
The car starts fine after a long drive, no more hot start problems.
