Thanks for the replies, gents!
Yeah, amazingly the gears looked almost new when I took them out and cleaned them up. about 160K miles. Less than .001 runout for gears and old carrier.
Must have been made on a Monday. I will definitely sell them when its time to move on with the truck. 4.10 gears for that milkwagon!
Fluid Changed at 100K with 80-90W val synblend. BL was 12 when I took it out, 10 when it went back. Factory shims were almost equal.
A new carbon clutch trac lok was installed. Someone is buying my open to be welded and used offroad.
Installing val synpower 75W-140 with LS additive, nothing else. I called Valvoline and they said not necessary to add anything. Got it real cheap at pep boys over black friday, like 8$ a bottle.
I gave the carrier into a place and they installed the side bearings with massive heat, I got back blue/bronze bearings.
This is after requesting pressing in. I ended up getting new installing myself, needed the race anyway from the toasty ones. You never know what a shop does with your car. He said he would warranty the bearings a year but I doubt they would have more life than that....At least it was a few bucks.
Just have to clean up the rusty parking brakes, install new, oh, bearings and seals too! and fill her up!
Now Ultrafan has me concerned if I should thoroughly clean off that stuff!
