i have a 2000+ celica GTS. I bought an LSD and I was using redline 75w90ns(non slip) and after over a year the shifting seems notchy. someone mentioned that I should use the reqular 75W90. Which one should I use for LSD and how often do you have to change it out? thanks

Well let's see

LSD = Limited Slip Differential
75W-90NS for NON-LIMITED SLIP differentials
75W-90 for LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIALS

Go with the Redline 75w-90 or Schaeffers 267 80W-90.

This is confusing.

If you look at Redline's information closely, they are speaking of the oil when they indicate it is "non slip--NS," i.e., the oil does not contain friction modifiers to make it "slippery."

Their "NS" does not mean use it in a limited-slip or "non-slip" differential.

Is the celica a front-drive transaxle? It's reported that the shifting is notchy. I'm having trouble relating this to the limited slip differential?

I agree with you about the use of the NS in a lsd, but Redline's site also recommends that only the 75W-90 be used in a street lsd. The NS is more appropriate for a race vehicle. Since the Celica is FWD, I would also think the NS might have some issues with the transmission itself.

The 75W-90NS does NOT contain friction modifier additives. Meaning, don't use it in a LSD.
The NS is thinner also.

The 75W-90 DOES contain friction modifier additives suitable for use in clutch type LSDs where you have a chattering noise.

What kind of LSD did you get?

What does your manual say to use for your STOCK transaxle?

For my 2000 Ford Vic, with a Detroit TrueTrac in the rear, Redline recommended I use their 75W-90 (contains friction modifiers), which actually helps to reduce temperatures and friction just a tad.

That's before I heard about Schaeffer's #267. I would try the #267 but I have enough Redline for all my vehicles.

celica is a front wheel drive. if I wasn't supposed to use NS and I used it, did using it mess it up?
