I dunno, but after a few years of GC not getting a lot of attention from the fans (thanks to PP coming on strong) it seems like it's coming into favour again.

Is it me or does it seem like a lot of people are back on the wagon?

I'm sure a lot of people still have a lot of it. It's kind of thick compared to the other 0w30's. One of BP's better oils.

It may have to do with the fact that its availability has improved with both AZ and PB now carrying it. Every AZ in my area now has it. A few years back, only some of them had it.

Personally, I haven't really noticed any more interest in GC lately. After all, it's pretty old chemistry by today's standards... most people will talk about the newest stuff hitting the shelves (Ultra, Edge, etc.).

In Canada, it's availability is phenomenal. The big retailers all have it, along with all the local parts stores (both independents and chains). It just seems odd that GC is more readily available here than, say, Valvoline MaxLife.

Add to that fact it's on sale about every other month, 5 quarts and a high quality filter for $26

I like that Canadian spelling of 'favour'.

You guys are lucky. GC is rare in Hawaii since none of the big chain parts store carry them. My local performance parts store charges $10 per bottle. I bought one bottle to use in my lawnmower. If it was cheaper I would use it in my truck.

some?

Some...

I stick to as thin as I can get away with. At 2000 RPM my car is probably capable of generating 25-35 HP; I don't need it laboring to pump oil 8)

Seems like a lot of the Audi guys still buy it off the shelf after using it previously or hearing about it. Also seems like more guys doing UOAs now, and spreading the word through hard data.

I think a lot of people were disappointed when it turned Gold. But half a decade has passed since that change took place. The fact is it's the cheapest PAO synthetic available when it's on sale. It also meets some of the worlds top specs and is a certified long life oil.
Add that to the fact that the enthusiast doesn't care if Group III is just as good (or better) than PAO. They simply want a PAO base stock and when they pick up German Castrol they're getting it.

+1

If it is synthetic it means they have not used any ingredients from the Gulf of Mexico, right?

I've liked it in any engine I've used it in.
WRT BP, as long as we drill for and transport oil using the world's oceans, we're going to have oil spills in those same oceans.
It isn't BP or Exxon, it's us and our demand for petroleum products.
There is not and cannot be perfect safety.
