Just curious; Do any of you use GC in your lawn mowers?

Green oil + Green mower = Very Green grass

I use it in my snowblower. Still green after the last snow. I use 5w30 Mobil 1 in my lawnmower.

I put fresh GC in my John Deere LT160 when I put it away for the winter. I feel it is the perfect oil for a mower. I put about 40-50 hours a year on and will change it each fall.

Bought a closeout Sears rear bagger for $99 around 13 years ago. Here in Michigan, lawmowers get around 7 months of use every year. After a first summer with the Craftsman 30W oil, I switched to Mobil I 15W-50. I change it every three years & compression is still as strong as day #1 with it.

On the other shoe sits my Toro Recycler. Hard to start due to a screwed-up linkage setup & clumps of mulch always gather on the deck-bottom to scrape off. The Japanese may know alot about automobiles... but not very much about lawnmowers.

My snowblower has a quart or so of GC in it. The manual calls for 5w30 or 10w30. The rest of my equipment is 2-cylce, so it sees Mobil MX2T (or whatever it's called).

I take it you have never owned a Honda Harmony…
=================================================

An average American will not pay that Harmony price tag. The Toro Recycler is around $250. Eventually, some may pay that Harmony price when a longetivity verdict is ruled favorable with it... time will tell.

I'm curious thou.....
Does the Harmony have a plunger primer?
Does grass clippings gather/clog under the deck without rain/heavy dew?

GC=German Castrol, 0W30 made in Germany on the back label. Hard to find, and generally only at Auto Zone.

I have Red Line 5W30 in my 13HP John Deere and 10W30 Torco in my 10HP Briggs, Dixon ZTR.

I have only seen one bottle of GC where I live and I bought it. Had to buy it to check the smell. I hope it protects my engine better than it smells.

FWIW,I purchased a 4hp,19" cut Honda mower in 1988 and it's been used for a short time commercially and every summer for a 30 min cut each week at my house.I use to use 30w dino for it's annual oil change but in 95 I used Mobil 1 10w30 and it's still in there!!! I have changed the plug a couple of times and clean the air filter each year, other than blade sharpening..It starts second pull every time, smokes a little bit but still chugging along. It is seeing less duty as I picked up a newer cheapo model and that one does have GC in it and will never see an oil change.

The Honda doesn’t use a primer bulb. The throttle on mine engages the choke when I push the lever all the way down. That’s all I do to start it. Mine starts on the first or second pull without fail, winter or summer. I have the plastic deck version and haven’t had any problems with clippings clumping up on the underside. I do hose mine off a couple times a year though.

I have a Honda Masters mower(HR215) that's going on it's 6th season. It's easily the best mower I've ever used (most expensive too) in 30 years of mowing. I really expect it to last for at least another 12 years with no problem.
I've been using Mobil 1 10w30 in it, changed once a year in the Fall. I think GC would be an even better choice though.

I bought a used Masters Mower at the end of last season. What a horse. That's easily the best mower I've ever had. That aluminum deck is STOUT. I also really like the shaft drive (vs. belt). Even at $300 used, I think I got a screamin' deal.

I bought my Honda HR-214 push mower in 1988 and it's still in excellent shape. I can see why their four cylinder car engines are so good!

I run the Series 2000, 0w30 in my JD, with the 17 Hp, commercial Kawasaki engine. I think the GC, 0w30 is fine for any 10w30 application.

I cannot speak about the Honda Harmony, but my Honda Masters with the cast aluminum deck DOES NOT clog with wet grass clippings.

I must admit that I was amazed by this as I expected it to do so when cutting wet grass do to heavy rain (1.25") the day before cutting.

My lawn is a tall fescue and I was cutting about 1.75 inches off in two stages.

I swear I will never own another mower besides my Honda HR215, unless somebody steals it.

No plunger primer on my machine. One pull every time, after nearly 3 years of use. Gotta love it!
